@chickadoodles. Bless your daughter. I hope she finds the inner strength to do what she has to do and get as far away from the abusive relationship as she can.
So often young girls wail...But I LOVE him!. I've heard it so many times from young girls who are sobbing their hearts out for either being abused or cheated on. My response has always been...I'm sorry. But real love doesn't hurt like this. I wish they would believe me.......
Anyway. Love the Poinsettia picture.
As for Catnip. We bought a tub of the stuff from Chewy.com. Note to self....don't let all 5 cats have it at the same time. Chaos ensues. DH gave 3 of them hits on 'kitty weed' this morning before I got up and they were still beating the dirt out of one another an hour later when I got up.
Our ACD with degenerative myelopathy is doing better today. We discovered what was bothering him....well beside the obvious problem....was that he is getting hot spots on ebony prominences from him scooting around the house. His left hind leg barely works anymore. He's devised a way of getting around the house by sitting on his left hip and scooting around like a baby does before they learn to walk. He does it so well that he has earned the nickname Scooter. It's heartbreaking to watch but he is still determined to live life and therefore so are we determined to help him do it. Some vet wrap and gauze pads followed by his doggie boots and he's good to go again.
No snow here ....yet. Just wind....lots and lots of wind. 25mph with 35mph gusts. I can't blame the chickens for not wanting to be outside even though the temp's 51 degrees outside.
Yesterday I did a hands on of the remaining standard birds. 5 hens are showing signs of weight loss. One has a funky crop probably from Marek's. Two have ocular Marek's and the other 2 are just too thin not to suspect, you guessed it, Marek's. Sigh. The remaining hens are of good weight, clear eyed and healthy looking, knock on wood. They went to the main coop with the bantam hens where their attitude is that they are movin on up to the east side....to that deluxe cooooop with roosts high.....sorry couldn't resist.
I also managed to get 12 cockerels into the bachelor pen and move the last standard rooster out so they didn't beat the snot out of him again. Now he's with the other standard roosters and the hens that are on watch. I told him he has to grow a pair and deal if the other roosters if they picked on him. One immediately did and I left the area with him hiding his head in the corner. Sometimes all you can do is walk away and hope for the best. I have more roosters to move out of the main coop. Hoping to have 5 when I'm finished moving. Rooster math. 2 bantams = 1 standard rooster so 5 bantams =2.5 standards and that should work with the number of hens in the main coop......
That's my logic and I'm sticking to it!
