The Old Folks Home

I do not get it
Well if the bottles freeze, no water comes out. It is hard to thaw them. With the dishes like that they are unlikely to tip them over yet if they freeze i can just dump out the ice and put in warm water. I check on them twice a day any way.

Oops, again. I just can't get the hang of this multiquote thing for some reason, DUH.

Anyway, so sorry for all you are putting up with/going thru right now. A small hug and a big prayer for you, your daughter and your fur and feathered family members.

Snow is finally letting up. We should have all day tomorrow to get caught up before the next round hits us on Friday. Now they are saying we might get another big one mid next week. Glad DH got me the new snowthrower. It's a dream compared to wrestling the old beast that he now uses.

I like all the cookie talk! What timing! I just finished 8 dozen of my Deer Camp oatmeal cookies that have to go out in the mail tomorrow to my DD and family. She begged me to send her some since my two granddaughters are coming home for Christmas and they want grandma's cookies. Between the weather, distance and schedules we aren't going to be able to be together for the holidays but I'll still be there in their hearts.

Chocolate cookies.....major food group next to chocolate cake and donuts.

I made pizza for dinner tonight and to make it healthy used spinach instead of sausage and pepperoni. Two days of eating healthy. Enough of that! Can't let my body go into shock.

Thanks @Alaskan. Our dog has been fighting this for over a year now. He's a tough guy though and won't give up. Neither will we. As long as he has the will we will find a way to help him. Once the disease progresses to the point where he looses continence or he gives up trying before then we will set his spirit free, till then, family helps family and our pets are our closest family.

As for the Marek's, Oh Blah Dee Oh Blah Da......If the 8 hens out of my original flock I moved yesterday hold their own, I'll be thrilled. The roosters, If one survives of the original flock great. Since I'm not planning to breed any more standards their survival isn't imperative and I've pretty much accepted that if one survives I will be lucky.

I have two vaccinated pullets right now that are healthy and happy little layers. I know vaccinating isn't 100%. While vaccinated birds may survive to old age, their offspring will be vulnerable. Back to Oh blah dee oh blah da.

Marek's is here. No way I can stop the wild birds or however it got in. So I deal with it. Like my husband says, the way my hens like to brood eggs they won't let the population drop too much so I'm counting on them.

In the mean time, I read an article on Mother Earth News today about research being done using Astragalus root and tincture to boost immunity in chickens to avian flu. So far the preliminary tests are looking positive and they recommended using the tincture weekly as a preventative, X number of drops in the water or using it in a treatment regimen in the event of illness. So I ordered a bottle of tincture today.

Hey, I'll strip nekkid paint myself purple and swing a dead chicken over my head while singing She'll Be Comin Round the Mountain, if that will help my birds live.

You have a great attitude!

Micro, you should at least wear a bathing suit. Must not catch cold and no one will have to edit the video!:gig

chicka, that's a hard place to be in. :hugs Dd #1 went through a similar situation for years. She finally got away, and got counseling for her oldest son first, then herself. She's still going to counseling, and I have to say it has helped them a lot.
It is great that she is away and getting better!

Great news, not only do i have an appointment with the sleep doctor on the 19th, i also got an appointment on the 21st for the orthopedic doctor. Just hope he takes my new insurance in January. My knees are bothering me quite a lot. Hubby asked why i was blowing out through pursed lips. Didn't even realize i was but helps me deal with pain.

Cap have you tried alternating hot packs with ice packs on your knees? 15 minutes each. I've heard it helps. With me, it's heat. Ice has always increased my pain but heat gives me relief. Glad that you were able to get appointments. I have been arguing with myself about getting in to see my Doc before Christmas. He said if my feet didn't settle down he would inject them for me. Well they aren't but I'm not all that excited about having my feet injected either. At least not before Christmas. It's like, which is going to hurt worse. My feet or my feet being injected....:barnie

Our silly crippled cattle dog just got a wild hair and went half hobbling, half dragging himself down our main path down the hill behind our house on a quest of some sort. He was moving surprisingly fast and DH had to chase him down with his belly sling before he got out of sight. This is the first time he's tried that trick in a long time. Silly dog. Still we didn't mind too much having to hump his heavy butt back up the hill. He was happy so we were happy.

I promised DH I would only bake low sugar cookies for Christmas if I baked any at all which I will....man I think I will live to regret that promise....:hit
