The Old Folks Home

Another nor’easter coming and down in the single digits and teens every night next week. Looks like we won't have any leftover firewood this yr.

I'm most of the way burned through the cord I brought in of next year's wood. Going to be a low of 6 tonight, so I guess I'll be firing that puppy up.

The snow is too deep here to walk on the trail. Even the snowmobiles couldn't get through. The dog and I walked plodded through really deep snow yesterday to get out to the trail line only to discover no snowmobiles had gotten through to pack it down. The guy at the end of the road was trying to get his snowmobile through his yard, but kept getting stuck. I asked him to let me know if/when he was able to get out to the trail. Poor dog. Instead we did the half mile loop of our road, and then played fetch for 30 minutes.

I like the trap... when I was little I left a list of questions for Santa. I was distressed the next morning to find that while Santa answered them, Santa had the same handwriting my father did. My parents did not think that one through.

Santa is magic, handwriting matching that of ANY person. You didn't know that??

I'll be raking our lower still shingles lower roofs on the house today, snow falls off upper metal roofs and piles up on them. One side 2 story no lower roof when it crashes down it'll scare ya if it's at night while sleeping.
Garage roof usually slides right off, been kinda 'hanging out' this yr, don't know if it's cause it's cold or just sticky snow.

I save all their Christmas letters, hidden, don't want them to know they never got mailed lol.
I was digging through hunting stuff looking for something for muzzleloader, found a letter oldest dd that moved out wrote me 12yrs ago first time I went up to Adirondacks 'bear camp'.
Took a pic of it and sent it to her, remember when you used to be loveable? Lol. She got a kick out of it.

You need a metal roof. Scary stuff when it lets go but no ice dams.
It IS a metal roof! New double locked standing seam fall of 2013. Enclosed porch is unheated but the solar radiation gets on the snow and the temps are near or just above freezing and starts things moving, then it gets dark and it freezes. The steeper roofs do slide, sure gets your attention.

Had a good 8" of ice up there spring of 2014 and BOY am glad I was standing between the barns looking at the house when it started to go. First a slab a couple of feet "deep" and many feet wide. Then it all let loose in sheets 8' "deep" and quite wide. Smacked the plywood covered, no railing installed yet, deck smashed and flew off farther, would have taken out a railing. I put snow rails on the west side of the rebuilt north building of the house to keep that slide from happening again. I decked and put up railing last summer. Just pulled the railing behind the laundry room (NW corner of the south building). The snow sliding off that roof was landing against the railing. Don't want to have to remake it.
