The Old Folks Home

Cap my aids worked with two to 33 patients. Some nights we would work with just three for over 60. I had really good CNAs working under me. It was pretty much a mess when I started working but I got a my way or the highway attitude and then proceeded to cull the undependable and lazy. Got to the point where whenever we got a new aid to break in, my top aid would tell them that I was fair and would stand behind them, just don't mess with her patients and do what she tells you and you will get along fine. With 33 to 60+ souls in your care I couldn't deal with anything less. They were my eyes and my ears.

@chickadoodles, please take care. I've broken ribs twice. Both times in falls. Not fun, no sirree. They don't do too much for them anymore as long as it is a simple fracture. The reason they don't bind ribs any longer is because they want you to expand your lungs as much as possible when you breathe and binding wouldn't allow you to do that.

Are you 'hugging' a pillow when you cough, sneeze or deep breathe? I did that and it really helps. Pneumonia and URIs are your worse enemy when you break a rib.

Supposed to get some snow and rain today. Dog whined at me all morning, wasn't really able to get much done so I took her through the snowmobile trails down to the public boat landing which is a tad over 4 miles round trip. She's now happily snoring while I determine what I am going to do with my newfound freedom.
It is supposed to rain today but lots of sun outside my window.

Three loaves of bread are going into the oven and I am going to break down a whole chicken into 10 pieces. We will see how many pieces I really do....

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday.

Didn't have a good night here at all, at least not until 4AM when I was finally able to get to sleep. My arthritis was rearing it's ugly head. Once I found a comfortable position to lay in and dozed off, the dogs woke me up squabbling over a bowl of kibble we forgot to pick up. Got them settled back down, got back to bed and to sleep storms woke me up with heavy rain and thunder. Doggo with DM hates storms so he was scooting himself all over the house knocking things over looking for a place to hide from the storms. DH got him settled down so I got to sleep around 4:30 and DH got up at 4:30 so it's going to be a long day.

It's still raining here and I think that is pretty much the forecast for the next 5 days. We had such a dry winter that we just sensed that we were going to get bombed with moisture at asome point in time.

@Beer can can I have worked my fair share of doubles. I hated it. IL had manditory overtime for nurses. You didn't have a choice. 30 minutes before your shift was up you would be told that you would be working a double. Not fun when you work second shift and suddenly you have to work 3rd with no nap and no sleep to fall back on. When I got nailed with it I'd tell them to find somebody else to work my next shift because I was in my 50s and too old to put up with only 8 hours of sleep in 48 hours. I did okay until about 3 AM then I was fighting sleep. I'd start my 6 AM med pass at 4:30 just to stay awake.

They wonder why there is a nursing shortage.

Nope, don't miss that at all.
:hugshope peace & severity comes your way

think I will join you pulled bean soup from the freezer making that tonight fresh bread even better that than leftover bread bowls
Sounds good!

I am making lentil soup tonight with the fresh bread. The chicken is for Monday but I want to get it cut up into pieces to marinade it overnight on Sunday.

Tomorrow is southwestern stew--I am very excited to try it
