So he worked extra hard to get some of the wok done, right?

Hahaha he ate first! They are tearing out the old paneling and base boards.
And putting up new walls. We want to paint before we put the flooring down.
I picked out a 18" cabinet to put beside the stove so I can use the crock pot or griddle there. It's just been open wasted space. And it has drawers.

WOW Microchick- those eggs are big. My Alice doesn't lay eggs quite that big, but still large ones. Pretty good for older girls. My girls are just starting out. See the picture- I got a couple of wind eggs, but Alice laid the egg at the bottom- the two in the middle are Orpington and I am not sure if the top one is Welsummer too

Ds#2 came to work on the kitchen. He asked me a couple days ago how much we have got done. I told him his dad has not been able to do anything.
So we went to Kentucky Fried Chicken and got the 16 piece meal with extras.
Since my kitchen is tore apart.

That is good news!

Those are nice sized eggs for young hens. I'd really prefer that my girls didn't lay such big eggs. I am of the opinion that they are hard on their reproductive systems when they cross into the jumbo size. I had a hen lay an egg last summer that was 2.6 ounces. The only thing I could think was "OUCH!" when I saw it.

I'm noticing that some of their eggs are getting a bit thin shelled in spite of ample oyster shell being in front of them. They are friendlier this year. The hens mill about my feet and let me pet them. My Welsummer rooster, Doc is a sweetheart. He was badly beaten up by another rooster last sping and spent almost a month living on our back porch in a cage while we tried to save his badly injured right eye. He survived and healed well with the exception of having a little droop to his eyelid but never regained his high status in the flock. Now he is too laid back and gentle to push the subject with the other roosters. As soon as I get my big boy pen done for my extra standard sized roos, he's going to get a chance to court the ladies.

Speaking of roosters. I saw my big alpha rooster get driven away from his hens by one of my small cockerels. I couldn't believe it even seeing it. Sam III aka Trey is 100 % attitude right now. He weighs maybe 2 21/2 pounds and earlier this week, I had tossed him in with the standards because no matter which other run I put him in the other birds beat the crap out of him. Naturally he fights back and as a result he has lost about half of his feathers. His tail is ratty looking, he has lost 50% of his neck and head feathers and his flight feathers are all broken and pulled out.

He don't look like much but bless him, he isn't giving up. It's just so funny to see a little guy taking on a 7-8 pound bruiser and come out on top.
