The Old Folks Home

I have a cousin that is a Dr. in Texas he did a study on the blindness that runs in our Pinson family line. From the first Pinson here in the U.S. that we found on a census was blind and so was his brother and most of their descendants. Including my grandmother and my father, brother and two of my kids are legally blind in one eye. Many of my cousins also went blind. So he got the Willis eye clinic to do a study on the genetics of the cousins across the country to see what was causing it. It turned out it's macular denegation. Kids from 5 and up are going blind in this line. And indeed they were Spanish. He hired a professional genealogist to do the genealogy of the two brothers and connect all the cousins who participated in the study. I could not it had to be a male for the Y. So I asked my so if he would and he did. My son is legally blind in one eye and cannot see well out of the other one.
We were told by a historical society in Spain that our Pinzon line came to the U.S. with Christopher Columbus and they owned the Nina and the Pinta and many of the Pinzon relatives were also on that trip and many stayed in different locations along the journey.
On the individual country break down it say's I have relatives in Spain through my DNA.
But they may be British as you say. lol

Thank you for the info on the ice age info.
That is an amazing genealogy!

I hope knowing the genes that cause the problem will help. There is a genetic fix for at least one kind of cystic fibrosis now and I think for one type of blindness

Busy day today. DH had another blue light treatment on his skin that knocked out the morning for us, then grocery shopping in the afternoon, home by 3. By the time I got everything put away it was time to go out and do battle with the latest rat that had tried to tunnel under one of the coops. Put bait out three days ago for three nights so hoping by now it's feeling the burn shall we say and wondering if it was something that it ate....

Thanks for the kind words about the embroidery work. @superchemical girl, yeah, it's a lot of work. About a week to do one panel, 2 hours an evening if I'm lucky.

If you are doing a quilt for him you could always do something like a Celtic knot with applique? Or possible machine embroider the panels?

Speaking of MIAs, has anyone heard from Wisher lately?
She's active on FB, working part time at a hardware store and still into poultry.

Both ideas that I've floated in my head, just not ready to commit to them, yet. I have one last quilt top that I made this year that needs to be quilted. Went out and got the backing for it today. Not sure how I will quilt it... had some ideas but the one I just finished I had some issues with thick seams, this one is WORSE for thick seams, so throws those ideas out the window.

Though driving doesn't bother me, I have begun to get very "sensitive" to separation between myself and vehicles that I'm passing or are passing me. Many times I feel I'm much closer than even the 2 foot allowance on narrow roads and there has become a "pucker" factor and the need to pay much closer attention at those times.

Lol "pucker" factor, yup. Don't have to deal with it much driving around here rural roads but many times driving from here to FL. Made a mistake one time and took what was supposed to be the 'quicker' recommended way, brushed by D.C. , never again. Like if there is room to move over without brushing bumpers at 80 mph you squeeze in... hammer brake hammer brake death grip on wheel...
Worst is always PA, constant never ending road construction. Concrete barriers both sides of your mirrors, get to two lanes inches from big rigs, white knuckle driving. We don't go that way anymore, gps phones are awesome for getting off the main highways.
Down in FL, even around Orlando or Daytona beach, not bad. Cracked me up, always hear NY drivers are the worst on TV (must be nyc city drivers, IDK?) Only , seriously, ONLY cars we ever saw in FL using turn signals had NY plates.

I never felt 'road rage' ever before but lately after lots of driving in race car style heavy traffic it kind of pees me off here... we take a highway to the big box stores, one way is about 30mins, other for more is close to a hr. Very mild traffic never bad. Never fails, has to be at least one idiot. I set the cruise at 72, 65 speed limit. Always have cars pass, no biggie I don't care keep it at 72. At least one car has to go just a mile or two faster and get in passing lane take awhile to get by, and then cut back in about a half a car length in front of us nobody behind them half mile ahead of us before the next car
I just want to ram them...:he

Was just on GFF website, haven't checked it out in awhile. Holy crap! they have the infamous virtually extinct, Lamonas, reconstructed. From a trio. ... ..
I've been really interested in their Ixworth, rose/pea comb British meat breed, but still too pricey for me and not around here yet, probably not a sought after breed.

Bruce any relations to any Pinsons?
Not that I know of but then I don't have any real genealogy. Grandfather from the province of Leon, one grandmother was from near Pamplona so Spanish Basque. The other grandmother was from Barcelona.

No blindness in the family ... other than the DDs when they figure "If I don't see it I don't have to deal with it".
