The Old Folks Home

Not that I know of but then I don't have any real genealogy. Grandfather from the province of Leon, one grandmother was from near Pamplona so Spanish Basque. The other grandmother was from Barcelona.

No blindness in the family ... other than the DDs when they figure "If I don't see it I don't have to deal with it".

Well that's a good thing.

Have you thought about doing a DNA test to find more info on your family?

That is an amazing genealogy!

I hope knowing the genes that cause the problem will help. There is a genetic fix for at least one kind of cystic fibrosis now and I think for one type of blindness

Ok Ron I found it. Here is part of the article.

Gene therapy is unfortunately not cheap. Luxturna costs a whopping $425,000. Per eye. Meaning that, after the withdrawal of Glybera — another gene therapy — last year, Luxturna is now the most expensive drug in the world.

We can expect upcoming gene therapies to have similar price ranges, especially for those treating rarer forms of genetic blindness. These prohibitive figures might mean that not everyone will have access to curative treatments.

One of the solutions some companies are testing include spacing out the payment over time and conditioning the payment to the therapy working. For example, Spark Therapeutics has set up a payment scheme for Luxturna in the US that is based on the outcome of the gene therapy. The company will offer partial refunds depending on whether the therapy works in the short term (30-90 days) or the long term (30 months).

Might as well forget I read it!

The softener backwashed WITH salt last night. I now have soft water again. This morning I ran the hot water, Dd took a shower, and I got a lot of the old water drained out of the tank. I then began washing dishes by hand. The residue is coming off the dishes nicely. Now, I'm waiting for the hot water to heat up again, and I'll do more dishes. What a difference the soft water makes.

That would be nice. I just hope I don't go blind waiting.
Some are turning to gofundme for expensive medical procedures-- like heart transplants.

The cost of these treatments will go down. The cost of research is often pushed up front for drug treatments.

We used to have hard water but the City is now using surface water. It is naturally soft now

Because sometimes you just need a chicken picture or two to take your mind off of things...

[These are two sisters from my French Black Copper Marans roo crossed with a splash f2 Cuckoo Bluebar (some nouveau Legbar hybrid that nobody is willing to divulge the formula to.) Hopefully going to get some nice olive eggs, but the hen's genetics is kind of a wildcard. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the eye candy.]
