Really? A thunder storm here in Feb? Along with micro burst of wind. I couldn't believe what I was hearing out there all of a sudden. Wind first, then the thunder. Looked outside, grabbed my camera and snatched this photo from my front porch. We don't do this in Feb. We do this in spring and some summer months.

After a storm goes through, there are instability showers that can include Hail, thunder and lightening. We had that here a couple of weeks ago.

Weighed and leg banded all the NYD chicks. Hopefully get 2 coops mucked out. Making some feeders for FF.
Son and his girlfriend are coming over for lunch and to change his oil.



That grilled fish looks awesome, as do the veggies. What's the last picture, quail, frogs or prawns?

She is having fun for sure. I just looked up Vang Vieng, Laos. It's listed as one of the top 10 places to party in Asia. So far she's been to 3 of them.

Thanks Ron I appreciate it very much. I do need some ideas before we start building. Since DH is in the mood to get creative....

He's over hauling the brooder he made last year, I am excited about his new ideas for it. And he is going to build me another one.

I am getting more excited! I put 7 eggs in two bators and 2 were not fertile they were still clear after two weeks in the bator so I threw them out. And two of the three in one bator hatched and lived one did not hatch and did not make it. Not sure why. My other two were suppose to hatch today and last night one hatched and the other one just hatched! My hatching is getting better!
100* dry for 18 days then 99* and 70% humidity.

I've got a bunch set again. I keep trying to quit...

I realized I was old when I could no longer see my birth year on an online form drop down and I had to scroll to find it.

I am not 50 yet and I recall 9 of items on the list. Some owned by my grandparents, sprinkle top soda bottle, wringer washer, party line and metal ice tray with lever. When I was young I thought the coke bottle with the sprinkle top was for watering plants.

I had the same reaction to having to scroll for my birth year.

oO(sigh) I'm gonna kill my DH. He's bringing a dog home from Houston. What are we going to do with another dog? We already have two. We have Daisy, my lazy old dane, who has her own yard and is too old to do much but bark...at everything except the chickens. Then we have Lexxie, DD's mini daschund, who stays in DD's part of the house because she bullies Daisy. Now DH is bringing home a catahoula. I've never evn heard of them. Apparently one of the grandchildren dropped it off with in-laws when she no longer wanted it and with FIL in hospital this big puppy is tearing up their house, and both are to old to handle it, so the begged DH to take it. I've been doing some research on them, but there's not much out there, and most of what I've read says that they herd by biting or nipping, and that they will try to herd family, as well. I don't know what to do. Will this pup be aggressive towards Maddy? Or the other dogs? Are they trainable? I am sooooo frustrated with DH!!!

Catahoulas are wonderful dogs if you are consistent with them.

I need some chicken feed expert advice please! I went to a new feed mill and co-op today and was checking out their feed and prices and the man gave me this website for the company he buys his feed from.
Please tell me if you think this would be a good feed for my birds as there is no meat products just vegetables.

This co-op does not have any other customers that buy chicken feed so he would have to buy 5 tons of it to get it delivered to him. Which means I would have to buy and use it all, not all at once but all!
So I really need some help here please!

I'd pay more attention to the actual ingredients, because there are digestible and indigestible proteins and some ingredients have amino acids that aren't available to be used, though they show up on chemical analysis. I look at the contents. My mill makes my feed to order every 2 weeks, and I use whole grains with the exception of the Canadian peas and the 2% corn- I have those cracked. My feed is soy-free and non-GMO, 80% of the grains are certified organic. It's about $18 per 50#, but I have to drive to get it, and that raises the price $1 per.

It's worth it to me.

Every one of my Penedesenca roosters has frostbitten combs and wattles. Some severe, some not too bad. I only have one other rooster and he's half penedesenca with a Jaerhon mom. His comb is just about as tall as the others but not as thick. His isn't frostbitten at all and he was in the same building as the two worst penes.
IDK but I'm thinking it could be his Norwegian heritage.

I planned on putting Vaseline on half of the roosters this winter to check it's effectiveness. I'm glad I didn't waste my time. It was so cold for so long, I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered and if it did, I would have had to do it for 2 months. Not happening.

Most of my roos have it, too- of course I'm just west of KC, so it's not that different what we're getting for weather, either.

One of our neighbors made a full-sized snow Corvette, then airbrushed it. It looked like an orange snocone car. I wish I'd gotten pics...it did take a lot of snow!!

My youngest child is going off to college this fall and after 33+ years of having kids/teenagers and loads of their friends in my house my husband and myself are going to be empty nesters. Except that we have hens, tropical birds, dogs, cats, and fish. I am taking classes on beekeeping and starting on my dream of getting my Master Gardeners License. I feel sad that my children will be all gone, but I am looking forward to it too. Have any of you dealt with this issue yet? Did you have trouble adjusting? Did you just keep busy so you didn't have to think about it too hard? I don't know if that is what I am doing but it feels right to me. I just want to know where my gold watch is for my retirement as a full time mom...lol

So...I'm about to start selling eggs again, as all the kids are laying again. I have got to thin out the madness again, because somehow I have a zillion birds again. How does this happen?? Why are there a ton in the incubator again?? I really need restraints in the spring...or in anticipation of spring.

We too had a big crack of thunder and then rolling thunder-- then brown out. A moment of panic as I have eggs in the incubator.

Mountains sure are gorgeous.

Arielle, I was worried about the power going out too..as I also have eggs in bator..lock down.
It's still coming and going out there with the wind. Crazy stuff.
I love our mountains. Whenever we would be somewhere without them in our past travels, we always, sure miss seeing the mountains.

It is 63 degrees here and the lawn mowers are running! I need to charge mine so that I can mow the grass tomorrow. It is getting quite tall and lushly green now.

The Plums and Almonds are about to bloom too. Next weekend is the Capay Valley Almond Festival.

Yesterday I drove through some petals from a blooming tree. That is as close to snow as we get here.

Sadly, I have to take my allergy pills all year long.
