The Old Folks Home

I just watched Prencess Bride.for the first time. The three amigos leaves it in the dust. Steve Martin has made lots of funny movies.
I usually have mixed feelings about his movies. He writes great stuff, and is a great actor, I especially like him on SNL. But most of his movies are made in a time when the style of directing and scoring of movies is almost unbearable to watch.

I have only watched two Steve Martin movies - "Roxanne" and "All of Me." I enjoyed his performance in both of them. I've seen trailers and reviews of some of the others, and my feeling just from the snips was, "can we stop, now?" Not funny, just painful - but maybe if I saw those bits in context, it would work better.

I think what's most fun about "The Princess Bride" for me, is that the movie spends the entire time pressed up against the fourth wall. The "story within a story" format felt a little weird the first time I saw it, but I got over it by the third or fourth time.

Breaking the fourth wall is a great technique, as long as it isn't used too much. I love the way Kevin Spacey does it in House of Cards. He has perfected it into an art form.

Love me some Python! Especially the TV show....

"Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore, et cetera, et cetera."

Something as simple as "The larch. The larch." can send me giggling.

"He's not dead. This parrot is pining for the Fjords." (paraphrase there)

I loved the understated humor in the interview with Eric Idle where he was talking about a conversation with his good friend George Harrison:

Eric: "If I had known we were going to be such a success I would've tried harder."
George: "Me, too."

Dialing my bator in because I've gone and done it and went crazy on eBay.... Hatching fever is officially out of remission and I'm going to stock my (yet to be built) coop. I figured having something solid in front of me will light the fire under my behind to get the coop built. Little postal boxes headed my way as we speak: Olive eggers, welsummers, cinnamon queens and chocolate eggers (welsummer x marans).
Just the thought is SO eggciting!
