The Old Folks Home

dinner tonight

I just fed this family of three on
1 can of refried beans
2 small onions chopped
1 cup shreded sharp cheese
8 taco sized flour tortillas leftover from El Pollo Loco...

and

1/2 tomato
about four leaves of bronze lettuce

Fried up the onions till they were soft
Heated up the beans in the oil and mixed in the onions.
Threw them in a bowl for dispensing

Tortilla assembly.

glop on about one and a half or two table spoons worth of bean mix
drop on a small hand full of cheese
Roll snug but dont squish the beans out the end
place overlap end face down in skillet of hot oil

Once its browned turn over...

Roll another set flip the next....
Set em on a plate to rest. Good semi warm. These are not burritos in the strictest sense more like rolled tacos. and ment to be eaten with your hands.

make three salads out of the veggies and spinkle with the rest of the cheese.
Grandma had one and a half tacos..... I had three and dean had three and a half...
we didnt have salsa and I didnt salt and pepper anything. Dean is still raving.

Sounds delish. And something my family will probably eat. They have let me know that any chicken I process is to be for me only. They will not eat any at all. Just the principle of it. sigh. Still going to order White Muscovies.

Ron, someday I want my kids to try to make sourdough breads, but they are too young to like the flavor. Maybe in time. THe other day I made a simple 100% rye with caraway, instant yeast salt and water. Blobbed it n a greased cookie sheet looking more like a 1 layer cake, lol, let rise once then baked. It is very moist in the middle and the kids loved it with butter . . . I was thrilled that they were willing to try some thing new.

I used to make german rye and swedish limpa and 100 other breads long ago but I rarely eat breads any more so their ( my kids) education is a little behind!! lol

PS my FF is not going well. Started a new batch indoors and added Braggs but it doesn't smell right. Makes me wonder if the feed itself is the cause as I am using a new brand of horse feed ( it is for my horse lol).

Not really.... Horses are just unexpected. suffice it to say I have never broken a bone that I knew about.... Long story. I only have one scar and its in my face.

But when you love to participate in something no matter what it is Like Motocross or Football our mountain biking.... Boo Boos come with the territory.

Deb-- I always figured horses would be the death of me, so I'm getting out of horses. Young horses are stupid silly and irreverent. Yah, getting bitten is the worst. Only once by a young stallion. I'm super careful now. Have had a few too many broken bones . . . kicked by young horses. Love my 2 old guys, as I never have to worry about my safety with them. They are gems.

I'll bet that's it. If it has fish meal or something in it, sometimes it will smell. Still good but smelly.

Your family won't eat your birds?

In all honesty, they didn't want me to get chickens at all. They don't care about the eggs. Just as soon buy them at the store. I, however, will be cooking my birds and eating the most delicious meals ever and thumbing my nose at their take out. And my muscovies.

I'd really love to do the Duck curing into ham.
