The Old Folks Home

Whoa, CC. Now that is one heck of a mess. Hopefully the situation will be cleared up swiftly, and any wrongdoings rectified.

Not bantams, just young birds. The Alhos do lay pretty small eggs though, it's a traditional Finnish landrace, quite a small bird, but not bantam small. And they make up half of our flock, bringing down the mean size. The Alhos are now 38 weeks, and the other three pullets and the roo we have are 26-29 weeks. I'm expecting egg size to still increase. The Sussex started laying just a week ago and is already up to 45 grams. The olive egger and Marans have just experienced their first broodiness after first laying for a month or so. The OE laid her first egg after that today, 45 grams as well. The Marans will still take some time as she stopped sitting the nest the day before last.

CC your soup and tamale pie look so good!

Alhos sound about the size of Jaers, a landrace from Norway. I really like them.
You should be up to 50+ grams average pretty soon.

I love this guy. Eliott Davis is a local reporter and news anchor that has a regular show called "You Paid for it" where he gets on govt. officials for misuse of funds and corruption.

He hammers the mayor of Pine Lawn in this short video.

It's mostly about Pine Lawn getting $1 million in speed cameras over 2 years and most of it going to city officials new salary increases.

Here's a good one too.

My family and I use that Metrolink station all the time. Usually to go to the baseball game or downtown festivals.

CC, probably pretty similar backgrounds in the breeds. I'm not familiar with Jaerhorns, are they also multicolored, a bit like Swedish Flower Hens?

I'm not a fan of speed cameras installed in a way that intends to trick people. I sort of like the UK way of doing it, where, if I've understood correctly, they are painted bright pink, and photograph the car from behind. That way they're really targeting people who are driving too fast and not paying attention.

Also, I find it a bit weird that the cameras can be used as a method of collecting revenue. Here, fines are payed to the state, and municipal functions and law enforcement just have to get by on their (too small) budgets. The way it's done there is sort of like having cops work on commission. Not a good idea.

There's a light and a dark version of Jaer. I've had both as well as a flame sport from Sandhill. I even had a flame Jaer frizzle. Jaers lay roundish white eggs that are quite large for the birds' size.
There are a lot of pictures here.

You are so right on the 'not a good idea' thing.
Any illegal activity here and the local law enforcement authority can confiscate property to the benefit of the force. The federal law had good intentions to confiscate property and cash. from drug dealers. The problem is it has filtered down to more petty crimes - like speeding.
In 2012 around $4.6bn in cash and property were confiscated solely on reasonable suspicion and the victim was burdened with proving innocence rather than innocent till proven guilty. The forfeiture law has distorted law enforcement priorities.

Only my radical point of view but distorted justice and lack of fairness are just a couple things that could make one ashamed to be American.
Some things just aren't right.

Thirty years ago Haughton, outside of Shreveport, was a very small sprawling town. It was put on nationwide newspaper that it was 4th in the nation for speed traps. I'm the only one in my family that never got a ticket. Besides my Daddy. All my kids, grandkids, SIL's. Everybody. Always had good police dept and things got done. Mostly, they waited for the tourists that went to the lake. Road repairs, new police dept, new city hall. They never looked back. Still giving them out.

We don't have to raise taxes, just pay by the offense.

We have stoplight, right turn, speed and stop sign cameras.
I recently got a right turn camera ticket. I remember the turn. In MO, you can make a right turn on red after a stop. I pulled up to the stop looked all directions and there were no cars coming and proceeded to make the turn. The only problem is that the camera didn't discern that my wheels came to a complete stop. A live cop (where I live) would never have given a ticket for a rolling stop at less than 1 MPH. Nevertheless, $100 fine. MO state law is that wheels have to not move for one to legally turn right on red.

San Diego finally shut down all their cameras because of public out cry and the fact that they were very hard to inforce.... especilly if you went to the court and contested it.... There were alot of contestors.... Because the officer has to show up who wrote the ticket....

Here I live in the land of the rolling stop..... I do wish more people would come to a complete stop.... but thats me. Even if it were a Nanosecond.

There is simply too many cars here. Back when I worked at A place called Qualcomm it was about twelve miles from home... It would take anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes to get to work on a clear traffic day.... About thirty percent of the time it would take an hour or more to get to work. I have spent a good half hour on the off ramp from the freeway to city streets... the free way was eight lanes and the city boulevard we were feeding into was three lanes each side...

The city encouraged companies to stagger their hours from each other. That helped. The other thing that helped was having flex hours.

I am sooo glad I dont have to deal with any of that any more.

For What its worth San Diego is the second largest City in California and eighth largest in the US.
