The Old Folks Home

Thank you. We will certainly enjoy them. I might be hitting you up for recipes later.
no prob. Just holler.
There are several people on this thread from the south that are surely familiar with those greens. We usually cook bacon, hog jowls, smoked turkey wings, or ham hocks..Add the washed greens and add water to almost cover. Add a splash of red wine vinegar. Add a little salt, pepper, and sugar. Cover and cook until they they taste great.
Please forgive me....I rarely use a recipe.

The nice thing about Deer Valley is that it is skiers only. The bad thing is that it's for rich people. We drove the back road there from Sundance and it was so cold that while we were in the parking lot a guy gave us his day's lift tickets. Bonus, free skiing at Deer Valley, no matter how cold it was.
Screw those snow boarders. My son has boarded but I haven't had enough fun on skis yet to try it. Not to mention the 5th lumbar that's in 2 pieces.

True for now CC but wait for the first "threatened" lawsuit. My favorite place to ski was Alta because they didn't allow snowboaders either. Someone threatened to sue them for "discriminating" against snowboarders and Alta gave in without a fight. There are at least three other resorts on the same road that allows snowboarding. Alta was the only place that was ski only in that valley. What I hate about the snowboarders is that they will stop in the middle of a run just beyond the crest of a hill and kneel down waiting for their pals to come along. Nothing like worrying about crashing into people when you don't ski very well in the first place.

I would love to learn to snow ski. I can water ski and love it. Too old some say. I say HA! if 92 year olds can jump from planes then I can too! And what ever else I want. I just need the $$$ to follow my dreams.

Makes no sense to me, but some just aren't up to the task I guess. He held the 5 left after dog attack while I gave antibiotic shots, but just hearing about this is giving him the willies. So I'm on my own on this. I appreciate everyones help and advice. I'll try the hot water bottle for her tonight. and some aspirin. She's pecking at the litlle bit of eggs I put down there. Pecked them out of all the other stuff. I'm going to try a little witch hazel. I'll spritz it from a bottle so I don't mess with her too much. There's no bleeding but the vent is out a little more today. She had 2 little dinky poos today. So I'm hopeful.

When I taught skiing, my best students were a couple in their 80s. They were going to CO for the first time and wanted to be able to ski when they got there.
They were extremely focused and did every move perfectly.

The first place I skied in the US was Pine Knob - a trash heap (literally) near Detroit that was covered with dirt and then with snow. Weird to see a snow covered hill in the middle of flat country. They have several of them in lower MI.
That was after I had skied a bit in Europe.

Towel method?

Do you have any ibuprofen? Aspirin (acetylsalacylic acid, henceforth known as ASA) is hydrolyzed in water to salicylic acid (henceforth known as SA). Both ASA and SA are non steroidal antiinflammatory compounds, but during production SA is converted into ASA due to the irritant effect of SA on the gastric membranes. ASA doesn't absorb too well at low pH's and in humans tends to absorb in the intestine versus the stomach due to the low pH in the stomach. However, looking at chickens GI tract:

Transit time and pH in poultry GIT
GIT
Segment
Transit
Time(Min) pH
Crop 50 5.5
Proventriculus / gizzard 90 2.5-3.5
Duodenum 5-8 5-6
Jejunum 20-30 6.5-7.0
Ileum 50-70 7.0-7.5
Colon 25
8.0

Looks like the ASA would begin to break down anyway in the relatively high pH of the crop prior to getting to the intestines (duodenum) and start hydrolyzing to SA, but it's only 50 minutes.

If you had ibuprofen this might be a better choice. Your other option is to ensure the water and ASA mixture doesn't sit too long, reducing the ASA to SA conversion. Considering the cost of ASA, this might be a good choice.

Ok, chemical diatribe over.

The trainer is Denny Hansen, circa 1988/89-ish on the photo. Not real famous in the show world, but an excellent and honest trainer. (To be honest, I don't know if he's still training or even around...will have to google.) Blue qualified for the Regionals and then was shown against Fortunate Sun and, I believe, Magnuum or some huge chestnut.... My refined guy looked like he was competing with East German Swim Horses in comparison. But Blue also did admirably in performance...and then it was time to bring him home for the enviable life of breeding stallion. I got pretty barn sour on showing...mainly the people and principles involved.

Denny's dad was a famous bit maker back in the day. The whole family had equine coursing through their veins.

I googled. He's got his training stable up in Auburn, CA now. Used to be down in the S.F. Bay Area/East Bay.

(edited for update)

Hahaha. I know that place. The ski club from high school went there. I grew up in the burbs of Detroit! :D
