The Old Folks Home

That is very fortunate.
I had a big tree fall in front of my brooder house with chicks in it. It did no damage but I had to cut it up before I could get in to care for the chicks.

I don't live in the best part of town. (a long walk distance from Ferguson) But, I leave my carriage house, cellar and sometimes the house unlocked. (house is usually locked when we leave for any length of time), We don't lock the cars. After almost 20 years there have only been 2 thefts and nothing from inside.
About 8 years ago someone stole a big compressor in the middle of the day from the back patio when I went in to have lunch.
About 2 weeks ago someone got into my son's car at night and stole a coat. That was concerning since it was the first time someone came up here at night.
We lived on the old family farm just a mile up the road and never locked anything. I had a big garden and sold produce on the honor system. I worked days and my wife would pick veggies in the morning before it got hot, put them on a harvest table at the end of the drive with prices, a scale and a cigar box for money.
I was never ripped off. One day I came home and the box was empty. I thought, "well it was bound to happen eventually". As I was putting everything away and picked up the cigar box, all the money was under the box. I guess someone hid it for me.

That's great. How many eggs are cooking?

22. All yours. I will candle at day 19. No stinkers. No leakers yet. I set them Dec 13

My losses were not financially burdoning. Just a pain in the butt. I thought my coops were bullet proof. Never expected floods though.
On the bright side: I will have bomb proof coops soon. My feed bill will reduce. Not nearly as much crowing.
It is really heartwarming that you guys offer to come out of your pocket to help me. Kinda tear jerking type stuff for me. Means sooooo much

Best of luck. Hopefully you'll have a great hatch. The last 3 people I sent eggs to had really good hatches.
I just got a message from a lady in AZ that set 12 2 months ago and she has 1 cockerel and 6 pullets from her hatch.
Once out of the egg, these birds are bullet proof.
Hawks have quit trying to take birds since I've had a Pene rooster in each flock.

I'm crying now!

Dude, when you rebuild your coops, I suggest incorporating a couple boat anchors, and a life raft.
That is just too cruel.

yep crooks indeed. yet they site the distance for the job. sixty miles one way takes an hour so I expect to have to pay their hourly rate to get here. Even a thousand dollars would put me in trouble though.

Fund me sites are used for quite a few things. I belong to a group of twelve women who have had horses a very long time. We disucss everything One woman had a mare that was in severe distress. the mare is in her twenties and was prone to kicking the walls of the stall. Everyone was wanting her to have the mare euthanized. She was timing it and when the mare was supposed to be in heat that is when the episodes occured. Her vet agreed. It was probably a tumor.

Exploratory and removal of the tumor orthoscoptically was beyond her means the vet offered to do it for the experience all she had to pay for was the anesthesia, and equipment use. and lab work. It was about Four or Five grand. One of us in the group set up a Funding site All of us contributed along with her family and there were a few outside contributors. It took four weeks.

Her mare had a massive tumor on one ovary and the vet took it and the other ovary just to be certain. Not cancer but he said she would ahve been in incredible pain every time she ovulated.

The mare recovered and is enjoying her senior years being a sane horse.

So those fund sites work.

Yeah.. Crazy... (About coops washing away)...

There are a bunch of coops washing away over in England right now

If I were to loose a coop, wind would be the most likely culprit. So far though the wind has just torn off doors, or opened doors.

Just last week the wind opened up the door on the little spot where I am keeping my d'anvers. (Cute little bantams). Crazy, but only one cockerel had left the coop, and was wandering around right close to the door, sad that he was now stuck on the snow.

National guard moving into our area and not for riots this time.
13 confirmed dead in MO and 12 of those are due to people driving into floodwater over roads.

My biggest wind problem is doors blowing closed near dusk and chickens getting locked out.

Well, that and trees coming down on coops.
