The Old Folks Home

I sold the pair of Bourbon Red turkeys I hatched, in the Cinco de Mayo hatchalong a few years ago, to retired school counselor. He said the tom was better than a watch dog. People would drive up, the tom would run, full-tilt run, up to the car. More often than not, the people would stay in the car until he came out to "rescue" them.

My spouse has that problem with the chickens when she comes home from work. 2 days ago she opened the door before she was ready to get out and got a chicken in her lap. I'm guessing it was Echo the treat hog. Yesterday it took her so long to collect all her stuff (so as to avoid another chicken in the car incident) that the chickens gave up and wandered off ... until she opened the car door. Then Zoom the thundering herd headed her way. Very sad, she either forgot to eat her apple or forgot to bring the core home (she wasn't sure which).

Heel low:

Like the service/seeing eye dog...the delivery boys jest need a decent dog to ride along swamping for them.

Thats why carriage hounds were used.... to protect the horses from dogs trying to chase them.

Fire horses could be hitched in thirty seconds. Most were Percheron or Percheron crosses. because of their get up and go.

I get tears in my eyes everytome I watch the one below.

In the video some where in the beginning it showes to Huge grey horses pulling a wagon that had steam coming out of it. That was a Boiler steam engine that was used to pump water through the hoses. Were talking probably about three thousand pounds of equipment....

All through you will see the fire dogs occasionally running along with the horses

I was outside planting a couple new crabapple saplings I got in the mail today and saw all our girls laying in the pasture and I had to take a pic.

Everything is so green and pretty. I just wish it would dry out so I could get out and do some things.
Tomorrow is bun processing day and I am not sure where we can find a dry space to get it done.

Quote: getaclue men are always shocked at the price of items we want. I'm always trying to figure out how to tell my DH that I shopped around and found the best price and let him know what a deal it was so he won't be so shocked at the price.
It's great you got your bator!

I hope you have all great hatches!

I feel like I have accomplished a lot this weekend--I processed three cockerels!

I watched a video on skinning them and this time I paid attention to the part about cutting out the back bone. That makes gutting so easy! Even with these trader Joes cockerels. They are not huge at 14 weeks old,
