The Old Folks Home

I have my fall decoration boxes drug out too. My front porch is already loaded with pumpkins. Actually my pie pumpkins. The whole decorating for fall/Thanksgiving gets a bit confusing up here tho because it's not all that unusual for us to have a foot of snow on the ground by then. But then with this turning into one of the crazier La Nina years, who knows?
The current prediction is for this to be a normal winter with most places having higher than normal temperatures. El Nino might develop but there is only a 35% chance.

We here in the west have had the hottest summer ever by a long shot beating last summer. San Francisco beat the old record of 103 by 3 degrees--106! In SF!

I can tell it was hot here just by looking at the cooling bill

When i lived in TN i got so i could spot them driving along. One was in a cemetary, one in a pharmacy parking lot. One in Freds parking lot.
There are new Pecan orchards going in on I-5 from Woodland to Williams. They are very distinct trees. I love seeing the pecans on them!

I saw macadamia nut trees when i went to Hawaii. And the Dole pineapple plant.
We do not grow those here commercially in California. We do grow a lot of things though. California supplies the US and the world with a very hight percentage of Ag products.

My brother has been to Hawaii many times and he always talks about the Macadamia nuts and the Dole pineapple plant. Guess those were stops on a tour. He decided he loves macadamia nuts, personally I think they taste like soap. But, to each his own.

Our apple trees and one pear are 3 years old. My plum died.
All my fruit trees have some fungus
I sent pics to the state Master Gardener help line. He told me to spray them with copper fungicide early spring when they have 1/4" leaf break.
Our large pear tree out back started this mess so for several years we will have to spray them. I will also have to spray the grape vines.
