The Old Folks Home

They call it 'practicing' medicine for a reason.

It's not really an exact science. Too many variables to figure into patient care for it to be exact. Everyone is different, everyone reacts differently no two patients are alike.

I just read another article this morning that said that another insurance carrier is limiting the number of narcotic pain killers a person can get. Then it went on to say that many 'old' people are selling their prescriptions on the street. :thAs a person who needs prescription pain killers in order to stay active and for pain relief, I find that to be a wee tad on the insulting side. I imagine there are those out there who do just that BUT, not all do it. The doctor is preaching at me because I don't use them as frequently as he thinks I should. They were also ranting about alternative methods for pain control. Yeah, right. My wonderful insurance will not pay for my D.O. to do his osteopathic adjustments on my back. I need them about every 3-4 weeks, he has told me time after time. I go in 4 times a year. Why? Each treatment is over 300 dollars and my insurance won't touch it because my physician is not a PPO.

So all you old fogies out there, put your walkers and canes away and quit peddlin' them drugs! Yer given us all a bad name!:old

I swear my chickens are trying to give me a stroke. I went out yesterday and two hens just were not acting right. One was one of my little Silver Duckwing bantams and the other was one of the regular bantams. I babied them all day, fed them medicated egg yolk, made sure they were drinking and nibbling food. Later I found an egg under the roost bar. It was a bantam egg and the little Silver Duckwing girl was out in the run happily scratching away with her sissy. :he She is a new layer. This morning, both are back to normal. I told my husband maybe she had cramps......

We often see over reactions to mis use of drugs. It is sad

Well it is likely a rare occurance. I think the doctor had a hard time getting the mesh out due to adhesions. It had been in there a very long time.
But it proves I need to be cognizant. The embolisms were a surprise. Both times. Even though we had made it very known that he'd suffered one from the first knee scope, they questioned the validity of it being a clot and not fat emboli. I didn't think it would happen again...but it did. I was very glad I made sure we stayed the extra day after his surgery as opposed to coming home. We did as instructed with the walking and such every so often on the way home since it's such a long trip...but he got it about an hour before going through our city. And we were lucky the walk in doctor called it. I'll admit I didn't pick it out. It wasn't severe like the first time. The first time Dh was just very, very lucky.

I will read up more about it asap...we're on a cancellation list.

It is good to know what to expect. An experienced Dr. that does a lot of the procedure you are getting helps too

Hi all :frow
Wow, what a cheery discussion. I have both a very long horror story and a very short happy ending story about two men very close to me that hernia surgeries. Fortunately the happy ending one was my husband.

Woke up to our first frost in a while. If the weatherman is correct we should finally have our hard killing freeze tomorrow night. This fall is turning into a bit of a disappointment. The trees are just turning "crunchy" brown instead of showing their normal autumn beauty. I can only assume this is because of the screwed up temps and all the rain, sigh. Everything is confused this year. My Lavender and Starro chives have rebloomed and my Canadian roses are loaded with blossoms. If this was a normal year here they would all be going to sleep by now. Hopefully the weather is finally turning enough so I can get to weeks' of pruning and trimming that needs to be done before the snow. My workload has been lightened thanks to the latest DNR research which found that you shouldn't prune or trim pines until early spring. Nice to be able to split that chore in half now. That property maintenance chore falls to me because of my experience in my younger days working for an arborist and later managing a garden center.

Wicked I hope you dh will be ok.

I made an appt. For the 3rd.
Same here! Prayers for you both of course!

Oh, and me and needles? If I had an aversion, I would have been over it long ago because since the spring of 2007 I have needed to have blood tests done at least every three months if all was well. Finally talked my Onc into stretching them out to every four last year. Hoping to talk him into going out to six months when I see him in November :fl

The biggest thing to remember Dr.s are Human just because they have that sheepskin on the wall does not mean God, forewarned is forearmed :bow

You of course know the difference between God and a surgeon don't you?

God KNOWS He is not a surgeon........:lau

No idea, always been like this and dad used to tease me about it as a kid. I had this Little Golden Book, Simon Visits the Doctor, and he had to get a shot, and dad would torment me, working up to that page...

I screamed every night when Simon got that shot.

I'm also good in a bloody emergency. The goats stepped on one of my cornish hens and ripped her crop out of her chest partway. I was fine. I was fine giving the goats their shots, provided BF could keep them still. I run an IV room, and I'm fine making IVs.

But stay the hell away from my body with your needles.
can they give you nitrus just to take the edge off?
