It's 91 here right now with the heat index at 99. I went out to un-bury the water containers for the two hen's and their chicks. Moms have been covering them with chips and crap as fast as I can clean them up for them. The chicks have learned to run in the moment I set the cleaned out waterers down and get a fast drink because the chips are soon to be flying. I thought about either going for a run or going for a walk with DH, looked up at the sun and said....ahhhhh....nope. Back in the AC for me until later tonight.

Last night and early this morning we had small cell thunder storms rumble through. It rained a little but not nearly as much as we needed.

I'm so glad I mulched my squash and tomatoes down early on. They are doing great and full of blooms. I picked my first zukes two days ago. Can't get enough of them sauteed with onions. Thinking Zucchini bread also.

@chickadoodles, did you get your new bed up and running? I should go back and try to catch up a bit. Us old folks sure do gab a lot!

so heart breaking....

Guineas are awesome but you have to be ready for the noise and antics They do not get Mericks. They take 28 days to hatch but the little buggers are tough... egg wise. I gathered a group of pullet eggs I could find in my coop they had been kicked about and rolled around some had been sitting in full sun at 90 plus temperatures. I had no idea if they would hatch at all. I threw em in the bator with some Auracana eggs put em all on lock down for the chicken eggs and left em on lock down for the guineas.... Three out of five hatched. I candled but never saw them pip internally but knew they were growning.... They pipped and Zipped within an hour of each other and popped out of those eggs like popcorn. and after tumbling out and around the incubator for a time they were in full Guinea Run mode.... Of course with a few inflight sleep modes... I found one draped over the chick feeder wings out and one leg under... I though Oh Gawd Dead... but it heard a noise and hopped up to see what was going on.

A friend of mine had quite a collection of carnival glass, and depression ware. A couple years before she died, she began giving me some her collection. She overheard Dh mention to me that he didn't think it was real. He thought it was just junk. She never said a word, but a couple days later, she came over with some papers. She had insured her glassware for years, and she had to pay extra for the policy. Each piece had a picture, a description, and a current appraisal value. He almost fainted when he saw what it was worth.

It is odd what some things are worth!

Morning everyone. Getting ready to go out and let the birds in their respective runs for the day and check on mammas an their babes. I have to admit, they are so much fun to watch when they are co-broody and the chicks are shuffling back and forth between mothers. They seem to know who 'mom' is but I sure don't any more.

Talked to DH last night about Guineas. I told him I want to house them seperate from the chooks and he asked me what I had in mind. I told him the Northwest corner of the barn where there is a Dutch door. All I would have to do is enclose that corner with sheet metal and bingo! Guinea pen. I could even go with an outside run for them for bad weather day confinement. He agreed that it was a good idea! Yay!

Plans for the day. We have about 3+ cords of wood gathered and split so far, 6 more to go so we are working back in the timber knocking down trees and chaining rounds. My body is sooooo sore from the physical work but it is a good feeling. I've been dieting since my latest steroid treatment drove my weight up. So far I've lost 8 pounds so the heavy work is a blessing.

It is not hot here today! Next week will be hot though.

We picked up a sleeper couch and an new mattress and bed for the guest room. It required a trailer rental so we also took a trailer load to the dump. The Dump is an experience now. We had to go the the rigid plastic bin, the metal bin, the BBQ site...and then to a different place where they do construction recycling for the wood. After that off to the regular garbage dump site...then back down the hill to toxic waste recycling...and finally e waste...And we had to go by the methane generating site...I almost lost breakfast there...

Now I m waiting for the alieve to kick in LOL! I did 200 active minutes today just doing that type of thing!

So jealous! I work hard, sweat half to death, no weight loss. Maybe i need a new thyroid test.

It's more than just the exercise and work, Cap. I put myself on a very strict diet. Lots of scrambled egg whites, fresh fruit, veggies and broiled/baked chicken breasts and pork sirloin chops. I'm shooting for 1200 calories per day. Basically low carb low fat.

I hate it! My treats are Blue Bunny no sugar added fudge sickles and a bowl of coco puffs.

Did I say I HATE IT?
