The Old Folks Home

We hit 93 today and 96% humidity :sick
Had my first ever loss in the coop night before. Was a late night last night, around 11:30 it dragged the havahart through the bushes and pulled all the bait through the holes. Decided to try again and see how stupid it was. Put a big rock on it and blocked the sides with heavy boards, 12:30am success.

Congrats! Hopefully it was alone!

Can't tell what was on the trail cam, stupid Chromebook doesn't recognize my sd card reader. Worked fine on all the other laptops we've had. The Chromebook has a port for a mini sd card but I only have the big one's for the trail cam, and all of mini cards are from our phones and full of pics. I'll have to go to the in-laws and stick it in their laptop. Guess I'll have to pick another couple mini one's up and see if they will read on it.

Better you than me!! Actually I think the huge maple I cut up (and yielded about 1/2 cord) was about that size but I didn't have to move it given it was dropped in front of the barn out of a tree service's truck. I bet you have an easier time splitting yours though, you have the "professional" size splitter. This is the 10 ton electric DR I'm using. I don't think they make it any more.

So how do you know when you have 9 cords since you don't stack? Just years of practice filling the proper amount of the barn?
Have you seen that DR rapid fire log splitter? Uses a flywheel and splits super fast.

Yep, precisely. I think we have it figured that one section from corner to first support post with the wood stacked as high as we have it in the picture is probably slightly more than 3 cords. Depends on how high we feel like tossing it!

I like the wood catchers on your DR but does it go vertical? When you are handling 100 pound rounds the last thing we want to do is hoist them up to the splitter. Ours goes vertical like pictured, which is a lot easier on our backs.

@beercan sorry to hear that you lost birds to that spawn of satan raccoon. Can you tell I really hate them and am really glad that you caught him and hopefully sent him to raccoon Hell!

I had a pleasant surprise tonight when I reached under a broody hen ( yes another one. I keep telling her to keep the thought and as soon as the heat breaks she can have some eggs) I pulled out a teeny weeny little egg!

It has to be from one of my little SDW girls. Only 4 1/2 months old! The Welsummer egg dwarfs it!

Only 10 ton? Ours is 28 ton and hasn't met a dense hickory log that it couldn't split. We were afraid to buy anything less than that given the nature of the tough Missouri hickory we have here. Knock on wood, we have had it for almost 4 years now and it hasn't caused us any trouble. Gas friendly and starts on the first pull.
