Happy anniversary, Cap!
- - -

Before we went up to Santa Fe to do some landscaping on the place, I took 14 Gambel Quail chicks (out of 19 eggs) off to the Wildlife Rescue. Left the 5 "dud-ish" eggs in the incubator. Came back from our overnight and two stragglers were in the incubator. Funny thing, they were decidedly a bit grayer in color than the other 14 (which were yellow and brown), so I'm thinking they might've been laid by another quail. That or older eggs equals lower hatch rate and, well, if we're older aren't we also grayer?
:)

Santa Fe had a gathering storm, but we put 5 trees into the backyard and mulched pre-noon before the storm hit. A snow storm! Meanwhile, back on the farm in Corrales, we had relentless wind that turned into a deluge of rain and hail. There is snow on the mountains this morning, and we've got cool air which is a crisp 42 degrees. Nice that I don't have to water today, just pick up all the fallen pine cones that litter the yard.

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

41 years! Congratulations, Cap and Happy Anniversary. Hope you two have a good time tonight. DH and I celebrated our 12th anniversary this year, together.

Ahhh to see the world from 6 feet!

I'm only 5'2" tall. Hovering around 114 pounds at the moment. Started my diet around this time last year at 148 pounds. Kinda proud of me. I haven't been at this weight since I was in my early 20s.

At least the bleepin medicine is good for something besides making me miserable!

Got 6 sweet potato plants in the ground today along with 2 different variety of pepper plants that I planted in planters. Also got a bunch of Sweet Basil plants in planters. Did pretty well with the platers this year. Managed to get two big planters planted with Burpee On Deck sweet corn and some extra pole beans. Mine keep getting drowned out in the garden. Looks like a few will survive and I can always replant those.

Gotta love the longer growing season we have here.

I developed a new game to discourage broodies last night since the broody buster doesn't seem to be working any more. It's called EARTHQUAKE!!

My smaller hens like cat litter buckets for nesting boxes. When I found a broody hen trying to possess one last night I rocked the bucket back and forth on the shelf and yelled EARTHQUAKE! until the transgresser got tired of me and vacated the bucket. One tried to crawl back in one again, I wouldn't let her. Kept jiggling the bucket. She backed out and glared at me before retreating to the roosting bar. Have a feeling she ran back to the box the moment I left but it was satisfying while it lasted. Maybe I should develop an automatic nest box jiggler that will work when a hen spends too much time in the nesting box. I could donate one to SGC and her terminally insane turkey hen.

Thanks Peep. I don't suppose you took pictures of the baby quail?

Good morning my friend! Congrats on the weight loss. I need to lose a lot more.
I just lost a perfectly healthy Turkey poult because it rolled over on it's back and couldn't get up. It was right under the light, and got overheated and died. The other one that hatched had curled toes, which I put shoes on. It can't walk much. I took the shoes off today. Hope the poor thing survives.

I was out spraying our garden this morning. The bugs are liking my pea plants. I was going to spray yesterday, but didn't feel good at all. It's a good thing. It rained all evening. I used vinegar water on the squash plants. That is good for what is going on with them, and won't hurt my blooms, and tiny squashes. It's 93 out. No wonder I got so hot out there in the direct sun.

I hope the Garden does well!
