The Old Folks Home

We got an inch and a half of rain last night. Lots of lightning. More storms tonight, a couple of days in the low 80s then more rain and then....Fall. Highs in the mid 60s, lows in the mid 40s. Tomorrow is clean out the chimney Sunday. Warned DH last week we needed to get that done...spent a few days building up the initiative.

Seeing lows in the lower 40s was the poke with a sharp stick motivation that it was time. So tomorrow is the day.

If possums need stress to play dead....I'll stress 'em....raccoons too! Oh wait a minute you said "PLAY" dead....not drop dead.....never mind.:plbb
I killed a possum with a broom once in the suburbs. It was trying to get into the guinea pig cage!

Works for me. I wish I knew what turned me off so much about them other than the 'rat-like' reference.

MODOC wants Missourians to 'embrace' possums.....I'll embrace 'em. I have a picture somewhere that I took about 4 years ago. I had moved a couple of roosters to a pen in the backyard temporarily. They were penned up at night but the run was just a mis-mash of chicken wire panels that I MacGyvered together for them. The pen was pretty secure but a raccoon had found a chink in my armor and had reached in and pulled out all of the tail feathers on one rooster. They panicked, escaped the pen and run and I found them roosting on the back porch railing the next morning with bald patches but no worse for the wear. That night I secured the pen, left the run as it was and set up a game camera. Next day I had two raccoons and a possum on data chip. Set a trap. The first night, got the possum, second night one of the raccoons.

That possum was twice as aggressive as the raccoon was in the cage. Cute and cuddly, they ain't IMHO.

Good morning old (and not so old) folks. I discovered recently there is a herd of elk in PA. I had no idea. DH and I went up to the area to do elk peeping the last couple of days. Wish I brought my larger zoom lens but pretty happy with the results. Went for a hike yesterday afternoon in the area. Its further north than us so they have more of the fall colors in the trees. We are still just starting our foliage colors here.

Beautiful, @dsqard. And well done. What kind of camera are you using? DH did professional photography. One of his jobs was to photograph barns in the county where we lived in IL that went into a flier so I appreciate good photography. His current camera is a Lumix GH1. He chose this one because some of his lenses are 50 years old and they would fit the camera.
