The Old Folks Home

It might take a minute, but those of a certain age will get this...

High temp of 14 degrees here today. Okay, winter has been a blast but I'm ready for spring. Birds haven't stepped foot out of the coop for 5 days. I took the nets down to prevent the snow from shredding them so even if they would go out, they can't.

All that mean, horrible, alien, cold, wet white stuff just might form into sharp clawed hands that would reach up and grab them where they stood so no way they are going to step foot on it.

Ya know I see all these pics on BYC of these big fluffy hens happily strolling out in the snow like they count the days down till winter and the first measurable snow fall just so they can wade out into the nasty stuff and get their pictures taken. All I can think is, okay, I'm in the Twilight Zone.

Of course I'm a person who's idea of winter is it snows on Christmas eve and is cold until December 26th then the snow melts and it's spring. Period. I love the change of seasons, I love the snow but the cold sux.

I sometimes think that they must gather up their flock, toss them into the snow.... then they take the photos.

Mine hate snow I think Alaskan has a point ..
Toss the birds out then take a picture before they fly back in.
I tried that once with one of my SDW OEGB roosters after tossing out one of my Fayoumi hens and watched her scream bloody murder in that unique way that only a Fayoumi hen can and fly to the only bare spot in the run where she continued to scream at me.

The little rooster took flight, did a complete circle around the run and managed to land back in the pop door without touching the snow once.

No time for pictures at all.

But time enough for the laughing to knock us over.
Funny had silkie back when had them in the tractor. Metal roof snowed a bit they would not step on it. The roof made a line if grass in the middle.
No way to take the photo
