The Old Folks Home

So the eggs I'm incubating for my friend (who I called ma'am during the canning incident of 2012) & where the ameracaunas lay white eggs... out of 29 eggs shipped here for incubation purposes:
1 exploded on day 2 (that's a first for me)
21 candled today (day 9) and did not develop
7 left in the incubator and of those I'm pretty sure at least 3 are blood rings, but I'm willing to give them a chance.

What an abysmal record. I'm usually a decent hatcher, even with shipped eggs, but this... ugh.

We had a Dr Love in pharmacy school. Not that funny, but a good diversion when you need one.
question, did the shipping box have a label, fragie eggs.? I've noticed alot of people complain about smashed goes and damage when boxes are marked. One person said they worked with a pycho that would throw and kick boxes marked fragile. When my mom shipped alot of ceramics I told her to insure each box for as much as possible. They had to pay if any damage, and things were broken..though, we made out. They sent someone to verify ...it happens alot.

I don't mark box as fragile or as eggs to avoid unwanted attention of such people. I prefer to label as non-machinable. To avoid the drop into the mix master that tumbles the boxes until they fall onto the right conveyor. I have my reservations about the skipping of this procedure despite the regular reassurance from the post master.

Eggs as I recall cannot be insured. You can double check on that , if you like, on the USPS site.

I had a very bad experience where a customer received smashed box and drippy eggs. I called and complained to customer service that USPS provided the box so I should expect that it could and would handle the rough handling of the USPS. BOy did I have to talk til I was blue in the face! Very poor service at the customer service desk!! On a number of counts. In the end persistence resulted in a refund on the shipping cost. Not on the cost of the delivery confirmation though. I boxed up more eggs for the customer immediately and shipped them out the day she contacted me. I would resolve my complaint with the USPS after several several days and several phone calls.

That was my worst in all the packages I sent this summer, so overall I am pleased, especially as eggs can only go USPS. I also pack very well so the eggs will arrive unbroken, and include a few extras when ever possible just in case of breakage. I did have one customer that wanted a refund on the broken eggs, even though I had sent extras. Mostly I find it very exciting when customers are able to hatch a number of chicks--I feel like a grandmother!!

Interesting, they will refund the shipping but not the cost of broken items. .? I prob will be checking into it. I know the PO refunds the amount insured if even one item is broken. I do know that large corp have a long chain of buffers before you can actually annoy the proper person, it seems odd that PO will ship chicks and not eggs..true? What if i don't tell them it eggs. Anyway, it just annoys me even I it hasn't happened to me - yet. I'm positive the rough handling of eggs causes the low hatch rates..the companies using these services needs to also step up. Grrrr.

Just a few things........
I may complain about DH but I do have to admit that he does do 90% of the household chores inside so I do try to complain as little as possible. SCG the longer you are with BF, the less those little things will bother you. One suggestion if it might help with the soggy sponge. We have a little bracket with a suction cup on the back. It sticks to the sink and you put the sponge in it when you are done. That way the sponge can dry out. It is very handy.
I changed my last name when I got married the first time but not when I got married the second time. The kids were in school and I figured it would be a lot less confusing for the schools if we had the same last name. I will answer to Mrs. Wilson (DH's last name) without a problem and Ms McPhillips but not Mrs. McPhillips (I am NOT that person anymore

) I did have to crack up one day when one of DD's friend's father called DH Mr. McPhillips

After the kids were gone I was going to change my last name to DH's but I am with Wisher. It is a pain to change all those accounts and legal documents. No offense to DH, but not worth the hassle and he doesn't seem to mind.
SCG, I don't know where your friend got her eggs but it sounds like they may have been old or not fertile?
Don't get me started on doctors. Let's just say I don't get along well with their "ilk"

On the name thing -

I did the conventional thing when DH and I got married, and changed my name to his. I was young (22), had no history to speak of, and to have done otherwise just seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. Both his last name and my maiden name are a bit unusual (at least in this country); the two of them together on my driver's license looks like a bit of a train wreck! Before we were married, I joked that we were thinking about hyphenating them, but figured that would make us social pariahs because nobody would be able to pronounce it. It's a bit funny to be sitting in a waiting room, see the nurse/hygienist/whatever come out, look at the chart, say "Ms. . . . . . . and make a weak stab at it, or abandon the struggle and go with my first name - which is very common. In fact, growing up, there was almost always at least one other girl that had the same first name, and she was usually more popular than me. It got so I didn't really pay attention when I heard my name, because I figured they meant her, not me. Some folks wondered just how far off in lalaland I must be, not to even answer to my own name (or got really ill at me, thinking that I was deliberately ignoring them). And though I've signed my married name to countless checks and forms in the 29 years that I've been married, seeing "Mrs." in front of that name still makes me think of my MIL, not me!

lady, being called Mr makes me think of my father not me - just don't feel like Mr. Then I look in the mirror.
