The Olive-Egger thread!

The only birds that take longer than Marans to lay are AMERAUCANAS! There are exceptions of course. I stopped counting with my Ameraucanas and my Olive Eggers. One OE was trying out a nest today, so I think she may FINALLY lay. Don't bother counting the weeks. You'll just get frustrated.

Yeah- I'm praying my lavenders don't hold out on me like my wheatens.

I only have one marans, and she lays when she feels like it. Wellies are much more predictable!

Well, 30 weeks later, my newest Olive Egger has started! She came from an egg from Maransguy, and had a BCM daddy, and a OE mama. A friend of mine hatched her. She's the sweetest bird too. I'm quite happy with the color.

Now if I can get the whole rainbow to lay at the same time, I'll be thrilled! I have a super dark BCM roo that I will cross her with, along with my F1 olive egger, some Ameraucanas, and maybe an EE.

I have a FBCM who is just shy of 5 months old and she has NOT yet laid and egg! lol I am soooo excited to get her first egg but....Yikes!

I have a barred plymouth rock and cuckoo maran cross... It was supposed to give me dark speckled eggs, but it turned out to be a boy. On the bright side, it means I can get olive eggers!... I think.

What eggs would I get with a Buff Orpington rooster over an EE hen? My EEs lay teal coloured eggs.

Green. A normal brown egg layer over a green or blue egg layer just gives a pale olive, khaki, or drab looking green color. They're still nice though, even I created myself a couple green egg laying Easter Eggers.

Ok, I know this is about Olive eggers. Of which I have two, that just started to lay! One is a light Olive and the other is a really dark Olive.

Anyway, what color egg would you get if you crossed a White Leghorn and aa ameracuna? Would it be a really light teal blue?

Thanks!

New to this thread...

My question is:

Do you make oliver eggers using:
1. Araucana
2. Americana
3. Easter Egger

Or can any of those birds be used?

Thanks so much!

I've used all 3, but none of them are laying yet. I only had welsummer roosters, so I'm not expecting super dark eggs with this round, but should be interesting. They all look like bearded wellies- cute!
