The Olive-Egger thread!

Donna,

DH was noticing the OE and CM out free ranging and said how pretty they were!! He actually asked a number of questions. He particularly liked the blue copper OE. THe red necks on the blue is very attractive!

They are pretty. Since I have figured out I don't HAVE to give any breeds up

I have 3 little olive egger roos, 1 blue copper, 1 black copper and 1 black. I like them all. I think I am going to breed to blue and black copper looking olive eggers with beards and muffs. What do you think? The patterns are pretty, but I kinda like to know what I will get when they hatch. My Olive Egger pullets oddly have lots of COPPER even on their breast, now why is that? It is not showing in the Copper Marans on the pullets... well not much.

You could use the CM pullets with the Olive Eggers Roos and get sex linked Olive Eggers

the eggs should not get too much darker either.

Hi everyone! I love your thread and the work you have done to produce these olive eggers, the eggs are faboulous!

I am sorry if this has been asked before (it probably has a hundred times but hard to find in this very long thread): is it best to have a maran as the mother or the father of my potential future olive egg layer? I have araucana eggs in my incubator now and 3 yet unsexed maran chickens and green is my favourite color above all :D I really must produce an olive layer!

Good to know, thanks for quick reply! I believe all my maran chicks to be of the same sex so I most likely will not have any chioce in the matter anyway  Too bad it takes a while to produce it but I am sure it will be the best egg evah! ;)

Some of my blue eggs are as hard to see in as my marans

I have Olive Egger eggs and I can't see in them AT ALL between the dark Brown and Blue Eggs it is impossible to see anything.

I can see in my Wheatens pretty well, but my other Ams and EE are sometimes hard to see in. White eggs those are EASY!

Yeah I tried to hatch those olive eggers.. I couldn't see a darn thing either. I'm not even sure any developed though to be able to see anything.. I use an old overhead projector so I can usually see into eggs pretty well. I've never had any trouble with blues though.

You can acheive several different greens, with subtle differences. SOmeone posted a nearly grass green egg. I get a pale olive green from blue EE x any standard brown egger. THe olive is darker if the parent dark egg is darker, or breed back to the marans for a very dark olive.

Lots of colors to love.
