The Olive-Egger thread!

Check out the EE braggers thread ... KatyTheChickenLady has an awesome Buff Am over RIR/Leghorn cross that should make some lovely olive eggers. I hatched out one from a very dark brown egg. She only charges shipping. Just a thought.

Illia, I know what you mean - it gets worse (the frustration!!) when your experimenting with your olive eggers! Hurry up & wait!

urbanfarmboi - I JUST listed a one-day auction for Marans (French Black Copper) and a few olive eggers - I should have 2-3 more olive eggers to add to the box before shipping out TOMORROW!!!

I had a member who ordered these eggs for a broody, but now has enough under her - that's why it's just a one-day auction.

ok, quick question here. You cross an ameraucana with a dark layer to get olive eggs. What if you cross an ameraucana with a white layer? Will the resulting eggs be a lighter blue?

Yes. We have a Polish cross we're expecting to lay lighter colored eggs.

I've got a second coop set up and am raising chicks in there. My roos will be blue copper marans and blue ameraucana. The hens will be mixed, but will have some cali leghorns and polish in there so I wonder what the blue ameraucanas X polish or leghorns will produce. I just love the different egg colors. I'm going to have some olive eggers next year also since I'll have BCM and ameraucana girls in there also

I have been wanting to try to get a purple egg but havent gotten there yet. I would think blue + white would be a lighter blue or just barely tinted white but maybe someone knows for sure.

I did however get pics of my first Olive egg

Beautiful Olive Eggs! All you need now is green. . . I don't see any truly green eggs.

Purple eggs are usually just obtained with a randam Marans hen who decides to coat her eggs with a white blumen, and causes the egg to look a beautiful lilac purple color. I'd LOVE to have the luck of a hen who does that.

oh thanks, yeah I dont have a really green color although I have some light sea green and one that is sort-of green.

Oh an olive egger back to a blue egg hmmm, maybe I will put her in with my Ameraucana roo and see what happens with the offspring....
