well if anyone would like to try I have the brother of the olive egger who is ready to go as I just dont have the space, as I only kept one olive egger pullet for myself and it was really just to add the color to my stock. I know I have said this before but he is for sale (for one penny!) and maybe someone could use him with an amerucana hen to see what the next generation lays. he is a beauty and is featured on eggbid and pics of him are on this thread as well.
I have an olive egger cockeral hatched from Ruth's olive eggs. I'm going to cross him with both my BCM's and my Ameraucana's when they are old enough and see what I get.
Hey, my fellow Olive Egger lovers! So, remember my one hen that's laying the sort of "golden olive" eggs? Well...she's been laying these crazy eggs the last few days....then, laid a very dark olive honkin' huge double yolker (should have taken a pic, because the olive coloring was REALLY pretty - nice & dark). She's fathered by my Marans, so she's got the "spray paint factory" in her egg tract (you Marans folks know what I'm talking about). It's apparently kicked in, but it's defective, depositing pigment in a concentrated fashion, mostly on the ends, giving me these super odd splotches of super dark pigment over her eggs....and this one egg that's got a very definite line all the way around it. Aren't these eggs just the craziest?
I know it probably sounds nuts, but I think they're just gorgeous, and you should hear my eating egg customers! Sheesh, I have one lady that's been blowing them all out & saving them! (Goodness, I don't even do that with my own eggs!) - but, I think they're really interesting & just wanted to share.
