The Olive-Egger thread!

A legbar rooster over a BCM hen does not produce sex-linked chicks. The rooster will pass the barring gene to all of his offspring regardless of their gender.

Of course my legbar rooster was defective and only had one barring gene. Even in that situation, he could still produce both male and female barred chicks.

If you want sex linked chicks, the hen has to be barred and the rooster must be non-barred.

I had read the post wrong then realized my mistake and edited the post explaining what you just said although you did a much better job at it

Hello!! I am new to chickens and I have an olive egger question!!! Any help would be appreciated!!

I recently sort of inherited the neighbors BO (Evelyn) She has been broody for almost 5-6 weeks! I also bought an "Olive egger" (Ingrid) who is a cross between a FBCM and an ameracauna. She should be starting to lay anyday now. I went into the coop to check to see if she has laid an olive egg yet. And low and behold..... I found a small brown egg???

Could my "olive egger" really produce an egg this color? Or is it just a small BO egg after being broody for such a long time?

Also, Ingrid has feathered feet and a straight comb. Since she does not have a pea comb does that mean she doesn't have the blue gene? Again, I'm new to this! Thanks in advance for all your help!

Okay o I am pretty certain that at least one of my Olive eggers is a roo, so my question is if I keep him and breed him back to my marans will it be a darker egg that what his sister's lay. Also what color would the offspring lay from him and a regular brown egg layer?
