The Olive-Egger thread!

YAY!! Look what I found today in the chicken house! Finally.
Three chickens laying, 4 to go.

Very nice eggs!

What is the cross?

Welsummers make the nicest speckles!

I can't believe the olive egger prices in that catalog! And from grab bag chickens too.
I actually sold off all my hatchery stock and am trying to breed for good conformation & production, as well as egg color.

And I just bought a cute little cuckoo marans cockerel so I can work on some blue barred Olivers

I didn't want any hatchery birds, didn't want to hatch out a bunch just to get a little roo, so when I saw this guy on craigslist, I hopped in the car and drove 20 miles to get him.

I'm hoping to be able to sell just-laying pullets, with a pic of the bird and the eggs she lays, so people know what they're getting.
A local feed store was interested in selling custom hatched chicks, but they ended up having to sell the business recently

Look for an Small Animal exchange. We have one in the Sacramento area that meets once a month during the Spring to Fall.

Yes, those prices are a bit high. I found it interesting that they say ALL of their OEs lay green eggs, where I find that occasionally I end up with brown layers, when I do the crosses.

They must know that the Blue Egg layers they are calling EEs have two Blue shell genes. They are only doing an f1 crosses.
