The Olive-Egger thread!

backcross them to Marans and see what happens.

I'm not referring to F1 crosses and that should be obvious.

Yes that's how I understand it as well, once you cross an F1 back to a single comb dark breed, you can have some single comb chicks pop up. But it's worth it to get the ones that have the pea comb to darken the olive color. Someone on here (forget who) was lucky enough to get a single comb pullet that still laid an olive egg. It's rare, but it can happen.

The eggs you sent me well the chicks are 6 months old the first of Feb. Getting medium brown eggs right now. I will post some pics on here....I thought the chicks were Maran/Ameracauna crosses...but I am sure know they are Maran/EE crosses. Look for pics of the kids on here soon

We are hoping Olivia, our OE, lays soon, too. She's 25 weeks now but nuttin' yet. When the other girls lay and sing the egg song, she has started joining in and singing with them, and that's always been a good sign with my other girls in the past. Hopefully she'll lay in the next month or so.

I have a wheaten Am that hatched here April 24th - she STILL isn't laying! I have never had a chicken take that long. Sometimes (within the last couple of weeks) she will get on one of the nests and just sit there for the longest time. I think, "Oooo, it's gonna be today!" but then I get nothing! Do you think just the sitting on the nest is a good sign, too, or do you think there's something wrong with her? She also (within the last three weeks) just stays in the coop a lot, watching the other girls lay. What's up?

I am enjoying my Olive Egger flock so much... I wanted to share some pictures I took today of them with others who love them too.
Below is a picture of our Popeye with some of his girlfriends... and one of our gorgeous hens insisting on a close-up...

Popeye, such a gentleman, but he's got his eye one me... and last, the wonderful eggs - the assortment of colors are just beautiful...

Pretty OE's and I love that kind of egg color! The "olive green" that to me verges so much on brown it's a golden color.
