The old style boxes had wire tops, as shown. It was just fine for transporting 9 weeks old juvies. But, for adults or finer birds needed for a demonstrations or exhibiting, the new style box is smooth on the inside, which helps the birds arrive with no feather damage at all. After thousands of miles of good service, that old box hasn't "travelled" in a good while, but makes a nice little sequester space for smaller birds, so I keep it around gathering dust mostly.
I also have this horrible penchant of over building everything. That a good trait in building construction, but when it comes to portable poultry tractors, pens, or travel boxes, it is so completely WRONG.![]()
HAHA.... I do that too.... gets VERY HEAVY. I have a chicken tractor we build when I first got chickens..... WAY to heavy and not convenient either .... you learn as you go.
