Im sure there have been others talking about this, but im utterly confused.
I can’t find any that discuss what im trying to figure out.

What causes the purple sheen, and why is it considered bad?

Well, i did find one thing. It says that the purple sheen is caused by bad incubation temps, therefor no one wants that. I totally get that. And i believed it to. At the time of reading this, i owned a 4 month old sebright. That sebright i bought when it was 3 months old, so naturally i don’t know to much on the backstory. its definitely possible that there was wrong incubation temps when hatching the fella. But, then, a broody hatched a sebright. (Silver sebright, exact same color to.) That also happens to have a LOT of purple sheen! I think for both, theres a bit of green mixed in to, but its mostly all purple. No one else has it? And yes, the others have black on their feathers to, but no purple sheen as far as i can see.

I would understand wrong temps for a human hatching them, but for a broody, and only one? That im having trouble believing.

I might have the completely wrong information about this, but my questions are, what causes it, and why is green desirable?

It's caused by genetics (not incubation parameters) and only consider bad for those who have faults for it (or is not accepted) in their breed specific standard of perfection. This also applies to green. If it's included then it would be desirable.

I believe it's cause by too much melanin. And maybe based on extended black.. purple is an even deeper color expression than the green.

One interesting article on the subject..

And also @The Moonshiner does a pretty good job of correcting what I'm mistaken about and may be able to elaborate here as well.

Whether a person favors green, purple, or neither more is going to be based on individual preference IF they aren't breeding to a standard of perfection.

This was also a good discussion on the subject..

My cemani normally have green iridescence. But, on some days in some lighting it can look purple or blue. I stopped paying much attention.

There is a cool thread here where a guy seems to be breeding for iridescence and shows off his birds. They are really beautiful. I'm sorry I cannot remember his name right now and can never find anything with the search feature on this site.

Oh seriously? I’ve never heard of blue. Thats amazing. Do you have photos you wouldn’t mind sharing?
Here's blue on the wing patch of one of my JungleFowl cockerels. Depending on the lighting they can look violet, or purple.
