The Rhode Island Red Thread

These are my girls and my roo he is much bigger now. He is only 4 months in this pictures. I love RIR due to their hardiness and laying ability. They are also just plain beautiful in body shape and their color.

They are all great looking chickens. I agree they are hardy and calm and look real fine. I just have the one - she has three other buddies but none of them are laying yet. Just 21 weeks old but the RIR is "cutseying" and singing so I am hopeful for an egg from her soon.

I am a first time chicken owner I just bought 3 Rhode island red chicks one of them was killed by our Labrador Bella allthough she is a mild mannered dog we left the door to the room where we keep the brooder open and she grabbed one of our chicks :( they are about three weeks old and the most adorable things ever! I am planning to get another RIR and three other Plymouth barred rocks

I am glad you have joined the dark side of chicken world. The RIR's are awesome birds. I am sorry you lost one, but glad you are getting more.

Hi there!

I'm new to the website and will be a new RIR owner by the end of the week! :) I purchased 4 laying hens from my local FFA...the student is leaving for college and had to get rid of her chickens. There were 24 available...I am only going to take the 4. honest! LOL

I have never owned chickens before so this is VERY exciting for me. I bought a coop, and my husband is going to build the predator proof run this weekend. yay! I'm thinking that my chickens won't be very loving and such as they were raised in a situation that they didn't get all that attention and "training" as chicks...do you think they will come around and be sort of friendly?? I hope so! They don't look very friendly when I look in the coops at them..they look at me like, WHO IS YOU?? tee hee hee...

Anyway, glad to find other RIR lovers out there.

Kathy
