The Rhodebar thread!

Isn't it odd how same parents can produce such different chicks batch to batch. Most of my first batch of F1's have nice beak color, not so much in the second batch.

These are the chicks from current hatch. Sorry for the inadequate lighting. The yellowish female next to the male, with dark striped sister below and hiding under the head and neck of the plump white chick. Color on the yellowish chick is not this yellow. There are faint stripey markings on her back like the male and a darker brown snip on the back of her head. The darker female has clearly delineated stripes. At least there is autosexing.

These three chicks are from the faulty parent birds whose photos I shared earlier and reloaded here.

In contrast, here is the last hatch of chicks from the same pen of birds at the breeder that produced the laying pullet above.

I would cull the yellow one and breed only from the other two.

Good morning! I have been blown away at this thread. Especially lately talking about the improvement you guys are doing. All I can say is WOW! There is a ton of info here! I see what you guys are working towards. a RB with all the qualities of HRIR ! I think you are on to something pretty big. I can not wait to see the end product!( I know it's never ending and you are doing a lot of work)! All the genetics are relatively new to me. You guys are explaining it well. Thank you and great success on your project!!

I took a couple of shots of my older F1's this morning. Mind you these were taken with a cell phone so not top notch quality.

In this pic the tail to the right is one of my darker F1's. The bigger bird in the middle is a HRIR that is a few weeks older then this batch of F1's. The bird above the HRIR is my darkest F1. If you look at the red coloring on the F1 you can see it is very close to the HRIR.

In this pic you can see at the very bottom left 1 of my medium dark F1's then the HRIR. Above the HRIR is one of the lighter F1's, you can see the barring on the wings. On the light and medium colored F1's it is very easy to see the barring, not so on the darkest F1's. Top right is one of the darker F1's.

I'm back..

They are older..pullets right? A lot of folks thought the lighter one was a cockerel..but it did have a small amount of chipmunk striping on it as a chick, no white spot.

The two in the back..Rhodebars

Fast little stinks wouldn't stay in one spot.

The lighter one up front, the one that came out real dark chipmunk on right.

Got a few pictures, hope they show up well enough for ideas..they sure both look like
pullets to me. Same size comb. I love the barring coming out on the lighter one.. The
legs aren't any different in size either. Not one thicker than the other. I don't see saddle
feathers?
They hatched, Dec. 30th, so just over two months old.
