The Rhodesian Ridgebacks struck again!

One of your own dogs attacking another of your own dogs is not a public menace or a legal matter.

One or three of the neighbors large dogs attacking another dog/human or anything else in the neighborhood is a dangerous preventable public menace.

The dogs should be put down.

Lots of other great dogs out there, be they from shelters or other reputable breeders.

The owner of the Ridgebacks is a criminal.

I didn't know that they stole him! I thought he ran off or was eaten by coyotes. When he returned 5 months later, I didn't know where he had been.

So many opinions...Horsejody I did read your threads and I commend you for professionalism, integrity, and tenacity. You did things the way I wish I would do things.

However, I know I would not handle things as well as you did. I am smart enough to know my limitations. I am also smart enough not to tell anyone how I handled it, even the DH. Plausible deniability.

I wouldn't want my secret identity as a criminal genius to be unmasked.

That being said, Kudos to you for doing what you know was right---if only eveyone was as responsible as you.

It's clear that these particular dogs are a problem. As a dog lover and a volunteer with my local animal rescue group I am sorry these dogs were with irresponsible owners who did not provide them the supervision they needed, and as a result caused you and some of your other neighbors such pain and suffering. There are ridgebacks out there that are fine family dogs, that have received the training and supervision they need. The issue here is these particular dogs, not the breed in general, or other breeds in general.

Horsejody, have you contacted their home owners insurance? If your neighbors are paying a mortgage the county office should have the name of their insurer on file. If you relay the hazard these dogs pose to their home owners insurance (along with the civil court documents as proof) I am sure the company would make it financially difficult to keep these dogs given the hazard they pose. Even if these particular dogs are removed, if they are breeding them they may just get new dogs. Contacting their insurance company would be a good preventive measure and protect additional poor dogs from being exposed to their irresponsibility. Good luck!

Can you get the name of their mortgage holder and get the insurance company through them? If they have a mortgage the lender would also have an interest in this potential hazard.

I'm just worried that even if these dogs are euthernized, they'll just wait for a short period and then get additional dogs.

I'm not one for lawyers, but if the authorities won't put the dogs down over the past incidents, time for anyone who has a loss to bring a civil suit. Throw some emotional distress in there so it's for more money, even though you won't likely get anything but medical cost ... it will get the attention of their insurer. The plantiff's attorney can request the name of the insurer.

If they have to keep these dogs at their own risk, or lose their homeowner's insurance, they'll suddenly start thinking a whole lot more responsibly.

Easy easy nathowe and Boyd. I have an "aggressive breed" and they don't harm anyone. Lots of people on this board own lots of different breeds so lets not go slapping at any particular breed, OK?

.

I disagree. Yet should be added here.
Yet! Thats like saying because a bomb is in the street we should leave it there becasue it has not exploded or done anything to anyone. Yet!
