Okay, not quite that much..

Mostly it wasn't the cold that got to us - when it got below 0 it'd sleet 24/7 and we'd all be soaked and the wind chill would get really bad

Yep and we live near water, right near water. You can walk to the water in under a min. More like 15 sec's from the back door.

We live ten minutes' drive from the sea - better than england, we lived right in the middle of the island and had to drive for three hours.

yeah, rain is awesome, we needed it down here... although perhaps not QUITE as much.
