Smolder in the heat and suffer? only one word: water.

Yep. We usually left when it got that hot and did something water/shade related. Though, it was still about 100 degrees during the night, and outside it was about 60 or 70.

Stupid oven house.

How about camping outside? I really do hate steeping indoors on summer nights, it gets all too stuffy and hot.

That's a good idea. The only problem would be that we didn't have a tent that wasn't broken at the time and there were about a kazillion mosquitos outside at the time of the year. And where we were it wouldn't have been safe anyway. There were some mountain lions who lived out in a gulley next to our house and a bunch of other beasties. Maybe bring a gun?

I had one of mine do that while I was carrying her around! I heard a thunk and everyone was staring at the ground, I had taken her out for relatives to see.
They had never seen a chicken let alone a fresh egg!

Air conditioning? Yeah, I can't survive with an air conditioner. It's just too.....abnormal.....

My last home was built in the mid 60's, it didn't come with AC and it's expensive the have it put in. My other last home was rented, so we didn't really have a choice but to smolder in the heat and suffer. That place was like an oven...

Ha! My house was built in the early 40`s!

Mine was built by hand as well, by friends and my grandfather. And had a vineyard. And an orchard. And a bunch of other stuff.

My great (great?) grandfather broke up the land for the first time for farming with 1 plow and a horse
