The Rules of Dixie

· As you are cursing someone driving 15 mph in a 55 mph zone and hogging the whole lane before you, remember:

Remember, that person learned how to shoot a gun BEFORE they learned to drive and most likely has a gun in the vehicle with them

When I first moved to the South I was confused, too.

- People was always fixin', as in "we's fixin to do this, or fixin to do that..."

- I hadda learn where yonder was. No really, I did.

- It was hard at first to figure out the difference between carrying and toting. Eventually I worked out that you carry people and tote stuff.

- I found myself wondering who momm'nem was: "WE went to see momm'nem this weekend."
Who?

- I had to learn to drink the Wine of the South, the one true nectar... sweetened iced tea. And dont EVER call it that; it's "sweet tea."

And the first time it snowed, even one flake, the schools shut down and everyone rushed to the grocery store. That is fact.

You know, that the opening day of deer season is a Southern holiday. It is as big or bigger than Superbowl Sunday or the day after Thanksgiving sales. Businesses open early to give them free coffee and discounted breakfasts.

Back to the snow....

In our county this is why everyone goes to the store & school closes.

Our county has one road grader. The districts take turns using it. You might have snow on your road for several days, before you ever see someone cleaning your road.

But I'm lucky to live in an area of KY where most of the time, if we get snow it doesn't last very long. One Fri. night, we had 10 inches of snow fall. By Sat. afternoon, 80% of the snow had melted.

Here in SC, our regular deer season runs from 1 Aug to 31 December - 5 months.
Counting the 2 week 'primitive weapons only' season on either side of the regular season, thats 6 months total.
My company has had to limit the number of people out on vacation days around the season opener. That's the truth.
