I only have non-bearderd white Bantams. Going to just concentrate on them at the moment and refine the breeding stock and then perhaps branch out in the future?![]()
Yes!!!! Silkies forever!!!!
Yes, I have got a few birds at the moment and I am planning on hatching out another 19 this year so lots of little fluffy pom poms. I know how you feel on the cockerel situation. I had two silkie hens go broody a few weeks ago and tried to get some chicks out of it, but none of them were fertilised, Archie obviously thinks it is still too cold![]()
They are very chunky and cute.Four chicks I hatched 2 days ago from eggs won in a competition
I’m used to hatching out little Bantams...these USA chicks were little chunks when they popped out!

Oh, how sweet they look all together![]()
They are very chunky and cute.Yeah I guess I will try again in March with my hatches. It is funny thought because my Wheaton Maran cockerel (I also show Marans) has been fertilizing my egg flock (which is made up of hybrids) and my Show flock (which is made up of marans). Just my pekins and Silkies that dont seem to be fertilised yet.
I have some of my egg flock babies in the incubator at the moment (only 6 because it is still quite cold) and one of my maran eggs in the incubator too (just to make sure they are fertilised).
My next show is in May too!!! Small world!!! What is the name of the show you are going too?Indeed they do! One of them is such an odd little round shape it’s adorable
So chunky! There is definitely a difference in them when they hatch from British compared to USA, both still cute though! I’ve got someone who’s wanting them but I like to at least keep ahold of chicks for 7 days before I let them go to a new home. Plus I’m wanting to see what colours they come in before I sell them on. As much as I love them, there’s no point in me keeping them in my flock as they will be too fluffy when older.
Oh noit’s always the case, the ones you aren’t really fussed about being fertile are the ones that are! I still hope you get chicks from those because everyone needs their chick fix to be able to cope!
I’ve got my male (Cupid...not living up to his name) separated with his two favourites. One reason being because they are his favourite hens and the other being that he’s getting too over enthusiastic with his grooming of them and their beards are looking bald
My next show is in May and he’s wrecked their feathers so much I doubt they will grow back in nicely before then so I can’t risk him destroying my other hens beards.
It’s just a shame the white hen he’s in with is one of my best for showingsuppose at least if he starts fertilising the eggs I’ll have some more of her chicks!
