the silkie slickers

Sooooo adorable! I love how they all look different! What a fun surprise. I think thats a great price for 10 silkie chicks too! I paid $7 for my four so already $28. How did you determine if they are boys/girls? I know silkies can be so hard to sex. Mine I have been guessing by how fast they are feathering in. I also heard of this farmers trick where you hold the hatchling on its back and if it legs tuck in its a girl and if they don't you "give it back" Haha (as in to the seller)! However, so far the ones whose legs tucked in have the fastest feather growth, so he could be on to something!

I have 5 silkies total: 2 blue roos (one of which I am trying to rehome), one blue pullet, and 2 buff pullets. (They'll all be a year old in a couple of months!) I also have 5 silkie chicks and one silkie/Orpington bantam mix in the brooder that I hatched myself!

Most of these chicks are silkies or silkie mixes.

Very cute chicks and such a beautiful hen. I love blue silkies its hard for me to breed that coloration out for me because I always end up with splash-colored chicks.

Honestly, I tried the wing method on all of them. It didn't work at all. I watched all of their actions and attitudes. Those four are usually the ones to start fights, two of them are the only ones allowed to perch on the feeders, no one else even tries. Blondie comes at you when you put your hand down. All of them do now but when they first got mobile most of them were scared. I also had someone come over to sex them by vent. I don't think he knows what he was doing. And I don't remember what he said. The hens, I think, fight still but not as long as the rooster.

My 2 silkies are just over a year old. They are sisters and they are always by each other's side. Love them to bits. My mom gave me the pillow.
