It’s always worth a try! When using a broody things can go wrong regardless off how experienced they are, sometimes the hens that have sat multiple time’s still get off and desert their nest.

The main thing I find with new broodies is that they do go back to the nest but they either don’t cover all the eggs properly or they get out to go and eat for too long.

If she’s a USA bantam size then she should be able to sit 10 - 12 nicely. You may feel some poking out from the side of her but you’d be surprised that they still tend to hatch because they all get moved around anyways.

The much smaller British bantams can usually sit around 6 - 8 quite nicely

It all depends on how experienced the hen is. I usually start off newbies with 6 to 10 eggs. An experienced hen can handle up to 15 silkie eggs in my experience, but she has to know what she is doing because she needs to know how to rotate the eggs position so they all have time in the middle where it is the warmest.

Thank you both! So I guess I'll place as many eggs as I get today under her. I'm only expecting one more. Apparently we ate most of our eggs, so we have less than I thought, but I found three to put under her (hopefully four soon). Guess we'll see how it goes!

Your hen is gorgeous! Is she one of your show hens?

Nooo your photos are great! You have a nice clear blue setting behind yours! (We just have clouds here today )

Plus, I personally think non bearded silkies generally look better on photos because you can see more of their facial features and outline!

I’ve only got two non bearded ones now, sold all my others

She is a hen I’ve showed, she’s came second at one of her shows and then at the other one she decided to go broody in the show pen and bit the judge...as you can imagine, he didn’t award her anything

She’ll be coming up a year and a half now so this year will probably be her last showing year because after that their feathers tend to loose their appeal for showing. I was selling her along with my non bearded gold but I’ve decided at the moment I can’t. PomPom was my first Silkie

She is literally pure evil with all my other birds but she’s just bossy.

This is an edit I got done of her as squirty cream on hot chocolate

She is gorgeous and the photo is hilarious. Yeah I tend to stop showing mine at around two years old because as you said their feathers loose their looks and begins to sort of become almost shabby.

Just pulled my chicks out of the incubator. There's a few barnyard mixes but it's mostly silkies. The parents of the silkies are a blue rooster, one blue hen, and two buff hens. What colors do you see?
