the silkie slickers

Pics
This thread made me laugh, thanks. When I was a teen my granny had two slikies. Well she had more but brownie and george were her favorites. out of her mixed flock of chickens those two tiny birds were the only 2 allowed on the porch. She would sit in her swing and knit while they would strut on the porch rail. Any other chicken try to get on the porch she would chase them off with her fly swatter. Both of em were something else, granny would call them and they would come running. They knew their names. A possum got george one night and she wasn't happy till we killed every possum every night for 2 months.

Hope someone can help me here. What can I give my one silkie to calm down a bit? She started to get aggressive when broody by climbing on top my other hen and pecking her head. The other hen then screams. She pecked some feathers out her head and behind her eye it was swollen a bit and red, but it looks better now. I had to separate them now.

I'm so sorry your little hen is not getting along with the other while she is broody! I'm afraid I don't have a suggestion on how to calm her but in your situation I'd definitely want to continue keeping them separate until the broodiness breaks if she is attacking her flockmate like that. I hope someone else will have a better suggestion to help though, good luck!

I find it strange, as they grew up together. They are almost 1 and a half years old. When they are not broody, they are like velcro and go everywhere together and do things together.

I haven't run into that level of aggression from the girls in my flock yet, it does sound strange to me too! Most of my girls get along pretty well even when broody so far. I've got one who broods in the middle of the coop and she's feisty and pecks if the other hens get too close but not enough to hurt them and she doesn't go after them if they don't come near. I hope your little broody starts viewing the other as less of a threat in future and they can stay together even when she is broody. Sounds like a frustrating situation, I'm sorry you are and your girls are having to go through it.

Luckily at bed time she doesn't fight. Both wants to sleep in the same bed/nest box. They puff up for each other, but then they get their spot and settle in for the night.

Hi everyone! I am Taylor, SoftSilkie invited me to join this thread, so here I am! I am brand new to silkies, although I have been a chicken mama for a year now! I have a Blue Cream Sizzle Frizzle silkie roo named Little Jerry Seinfield ( he is my profile photo) as well as 8 straight run silkie chicks! 2 of those chicks are satin silkies & the rest are your typical fluffy butts! Here are a few pics of the chicks!
