Question: If i have a frizzled silkie roo(splash) and two pure silkie hens(all white and all black) .... i could get all those varieties .... smooth sizzle and frizzle sizzle , etc. ???
just for the folks that like seeing visually whats called what.....
this is a silkier (partridge boy)

this is a frizzled silkier notice the frizzled but still silkier feathering also a boy red blue calico

smooth sizzle black and silver mix (notice not silkier feathered making it a sizzle)

silver laced frizzled sizzle also non silkier or hard feathered

good Question little red coop,
if you have a frizzled silkie mated to a regular silkie you will get 50% frizzled silkie and 50% regular silkie no sizzles.
but just to confuse you.... if you have a smooth sizzle to a frizzled sizzle you will most likely get all four feather types.
silkie feathering is recessive you need two copies of it to make a silkie bird, assuming most sizzles will have one copy of the gene your chances should be about 1/4 for each each type.
but since it is recessive you could breed out the silkie trait completely and get true sizzles. that means when bred they would give you 50/50 smooth and frizzled but 100% sizzle. but since most people are still improving type in their breeding stock expect lots of silkie when you breed sizzles both frizzled and smooth.
oh and a big point of confusion when you get a silkie feathered bird out of sizzle breeding it is not a silkie feathered sizzle or a silkied sizzle or any other such thing. they are 100% silkie just like any other silkie out there. but depending on their breeding stock they will vary in quality, just like every other silkie out there.

Wow....i get it. You are very good at explaining(plus the visuals ) thanks. I only have the one frizzled silkie cockerel ...darn... those smooth sizzles look amazing . Just out of curiosity... i have some laying hens(2 goldenlaced wyndottes, 1 silverlaced and 1 welsummer ) in a separate coop in my backyard... a mating between, say the silverlaced wyndotte and him... would pass on the frizzle gene....but what would that create ? glad to help!!
a sizzle is a frizzled any bird crossed to a silkie, but it would work just the same if you had a frizzled silkie mated to any breed. bantam wyndottes would make a great start to a sizzle project. smaller rounder bodies and you wouldn't struggle with single comb problem (like u would with cochins). your issue will be to add feathers to the feet and crest size. but not a bad trade off to add pattern and hard feathering back to a sizzle project. i love the patterning on wynodottes & i plan on using some in my project for those same reasons.
the offspring will be 100% sizzle (f1's) 50/50 frizzled to smooth.
oh and yes a small rooster will ave no problem breeding larger hens.
love my roosters! i have way too many here but they have such big personality its hard to re home them
it will start with two roosters little red. but chicken math says you will most likely end up with more! good luck

My sweety has FINALLY got it!!!! Someone asked about my Sizzles the other day & what they r and he said, let me try, & explained it to them perfectly!!!!! I was so excited!!

Oh, in my excitement, I forgot to add, I got 3 new little Silkie chicks yesterday! All blue!! I only have 2 silkies a white & a black, been DYING for a blue! Fingers crossed I get at least 1 pullet!

I'm upset one of my black 6 wk old sizzles is turning brown. It's weird it's just on its chest. Is is normal for them to change color this far along. I am upset cuz I wanted black and the lady said that it would be black but now it's turning brown.

Be patient. My sizzles change for months. You might really like the variations. My black and blue boys have some blonde feathers that came in around 4 months and I love it. All the different colors I get from my breeding group is really awesome to see.
