The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
Anyone up to seeing my 'frilkie' who I have entered into the show this weekend just for fun. He's neat looking, and I like conversation starters. I do not expect him to do well :p

They are like silkies for sexing. The combs are hard to differentiate, especially since your bird has such dark skin. I'd guess girl. If you'd take a picture of her comb, I'd be able to tell more

Oh and never judge a bird by posture. I had (gave her away to a friend) a girl that would stand very erect like a rooster, even at a week old. My boys usually don't stand erect until they are older either. I do notice boys will play fight a lot more frequently than the girls.

looks like girl there lil easier to sex then silkies
I sure hope you are right.. love this Sizzle but surely dont need more roosters lol! This is my latest picture of "her" :) I will take a comb shot today to post...Thank you for your guesses.... Also about breeding.. is it best to breed back to a silkie.. I think I read not to breed back to a frizzled bird? Is that right?

I figured it was time to show off some of my sizzles.

Is that one of mine? I saw her picture on Calif. Poultry but the pic was too small to really do her justice. I would definitely say "she" but I'm not sure I agree with chickendales about the Sizzles being easier to sex than the Silkies. At least the Silkie roos have the spikey feathers at the back of the crest that gives them away. The Sizzles don't have those.

Anyway, she looks very nice. I have a few young roosters that would go well with her. I have 2 smooth Sizzles - 1 dark blue & 1 splash, & I also have a couple of roos that look like pure Silkies but I can tell from the thickness of the feathers that they carry the Sizzle gene. You're welcome to any of them.

Sheri, yes, she is one of yours :) we just love her!!! I wish i was closer to you so I could just come and pick one up!I think it is close to a 5 hr drive each way. If you are ever over this way or even part way where we could meet up sometime I wouldnt mind having another one to breed. So do I need to breed to a smooth sizzle or one with a Sizzle gene? I thought i had read that they needed to be bred back to a regular Silkie... something about not doubling up on the frizzle gene... I havent done much research on this yet. Sine I have you here I was wondering about one of the other chicks :) Im sure it is a pullet, no streamers and no comb at all. It is the one I told you looked white but you didnt think it should be white. She has developed a pale Grey head and getting some pale yellow on her neck, chest wings etc. You will see just a hint of color in pictures. I shows a bit more in real life but not much. She was from a pen where you have produced some porcelains. Is that what she is ? Most of the ones I see are darker but I love her very pastel look. Hope no one minds my non-Sizzle picture.

The ones I got from you are also Khaki colored. Well at least 3 of the 4 are. The 4th one is black. I love the color of them.
