The Sizzle Thread!

I've been lurking here, and "unlurked" to share pictures of my Calico Splash sizzle chick.

I love this chick, by the way, it's adorable!

I just hatched 3 sizzle eggs and 2 silkie eggs; I bought them on Ebay so I am waiting to see what they turn out to be assuming they are what they were advertised to be.
I have a red and splash silkie and three grey to black sizzles. I think I have a smooth sizzle which I was really hoping I got! Here's pictures... tell me what you think... some have a bigger head than others... not sure what that means

Above is a one week old splash silkie... what does the white toe mean? Cochin gene?

Red Silkie, I think it looks smart!

Grey sizzle- big head

Another grey sizzle

Thanks for letting me share!

Super cute! Those pink toes are pigment holes, they're pretty common in Sizzles and purebred Silkies. They should darken up, but sometimes they don't. If you are going to show them, and the pigment holes stay, I believe the judges would take off points for it. If you aren't going to show them, they won't make a difference one way or another. The chicks with the bigger heads have vaulted skulls, or a soft spot on the head (like a human baby) where the brain protrudes a little. A lot of people prefer chicks with vaults because they're supposed to push the crests up and make them appear bigger. However, some of my chicks without vaults have crests as big as the ones with them. And, if your thoughts haven't traveled in this direction yet, those vaults can sometimes cause problems. Like, for example, if they are startled and hit their heads or get pecked by another bird, they can develop some pretty terrible problems. So, its a good idea to be careful of sharp objects in their coop and to keep them with really docile or other crested breeds.
Good luck with your chicks

Just discovered these little cuties last week (Sizzles) and now I have 4 Sizzles, 1 Silkie and 1 frizzled Silkie!!!...Thanks to Sheri out in Lincoln Ca.!!....Never had Chickens before so we are on a new adventure....They are about 5 weeks old and me and my daughter are having fun designing their new coop.....I know I know ...I will get some pics up soon!

Any idea on what to sell sizzle chicks at? I have 4 that I just hatched. Dad is a black sizzle and mom is a Cochin/silkie mix. It looks like I have 3 that take after dad and one that takes after mom. I'm not looking to ship I just want to sell locally. Just looking for ideas on what to post them at. Thanks!

I have a question...I'm going to getting a few sizzles, a smooth roo, a smooth hen and a sizzle roo. I plan on getting two pens started, one with the Sizzle splash Roo over a smooth splash hen and a smooth cochin/silkie mix hen that is black. The 2nd pen I would like to have the Smooth Splash roo over my black frizzle and another one of my hens. However I only have silkies at the moment for the rest of my hens and I don't even know if putting a sizzle over a frizzle is a good idea in the first place. I'm leaning towards no....So my question is, what do you get if you cross a Smooth Sizzle to a Silkie? And should I put the smooth over two silkies instead of the frizzle?
