Uh yeah, they can. MY first lab Rocket, of course, was older and got used to them right quick. He never chased them or bothered the chickens guineas or ducks.

Luna was also easy to train, she was also not a puppy at the time.

And Ziggy who is half lab and half beagle, wanted to chase the ducks but pretty much ignored the chickens and now is fine with everyone. He WAS a puppy (he's 20 months now). I have absolutely no fear about leaving him with the birds unobserved. (I'd show a photo of him and a chicken but the uploader doesn't seem to be working!)

My sister's lab however, is clueless and WILL try to eat my chickens. So no free ranging when they visit, but since it's in winter the birds don't want to free range in the snow any way.
Duh, lab=bird dog? Some people just can't believe that instinct is there in their "baby"............I just don't know if alab that young can get "used" to chickens, their previous dogs did only after killing 1-2 birds apiece

Anybody else here have or have had Border Collies besides Olive and myself ? If not you should try one. They are the most awesome dogs. Whenever my daughter comes out to visit she brings hers out and that dog will play frisbee all day long as long as you throw it. He finally destroyed his other one so I bought him a new one LOL.

I have always wanted one since I was a kid. My sister had one on her farm and she would round up horses and pigs for her. She started out as a show dog but got bored with it I think so my sister trained her with the animals instead and she loved that! She lived to be 17 and just laid down in the horse pasture and went to sleep. That and her sheep dog were the best with her farm animals and with people!

Yaaaa I have babies. Welsummers, OE's, and JG's. None of my Cochin eggs hatched though. :-(. One more chance for some that are under my broody hen.

I've never had an OE but I want one. If you have a waiting list put me on it!! lol

Hmm I just noticed I'm in here all alone!

Well today I start physical therapy for my hand. It still hasn't healed from my dive off the porch of the other house into a large pile of lumber. I can't hold a cup with that hand or write very well. I was diagnosed with RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) but for some reason docs are now calling it something else stupid. Anyway, I was dx with RSD years and years ago in my legs so it wasn't a surprise. He wants me to try pt but I don't think it's going to work. I'll try it once.

Does anyone nearby (Robin, Gail?) have a big ladder we can borrow? Like a 40 footer or something? Aric needs it to paint his mom's house. The one he had doesn't work anymore.

Our stupid turkeys kept us awake most of the night. Not sure if something was out there but they were sure making a lot of noise! If we keep turkeys again next year we have to put them somewhere and in something else.

Well guess I better go eat something and get ready to go. I can't even begin to count how many hours of pt I've put in in my life!
