While we are on the topic of genetics, does anyone know how they got the color for the coronation Sussex? Was this a mutation or what did they cross it with way-back-when to get the diluted gray/lavender color? I am unclear where they got the gene to dilute the black.
I don't know how they brought it into the Light Sussex to create the Coronations - whether they used a Lavender/Self Blue bird from another breed? The genetics are the same as any lavender/Self-Blue breedings, and they are crossed back to the "Black" (Light Sussex) to improve feather quality since the lavender gene is rough on the feathers.
There are also Blue Coronations using the Blue (Bl) gene which is incomplete dominant. If you understand genetics of Blue breeding it applies to those birds as well.
