I keep trying but I just cannot upload pics on this thread!! But if you go to the Aussie thread you will see grown up pics of my 2 Sussex
Question, are coronation and silver Sussex one in the same? A few people around me occasionally advertise silver Sussex and I was curious, I love looking at pics of fanychookladys corronation, to have one or 2 like that would be a dream!
The sussex is my favorite standard breed that I have expierence with. that MAY change once my barred rocks get older, who knows But my sussex is very sweet. love her.
My fav breed = English Orpingtons
They are docile to an extreme. Any kid can just walk over & scoop them up. They are constantly underfoot or following me & very easily trained. If we sit in a chair, they pile in our laps. They come in a variety of colors & have a beautiful basketball-like shape - due to their extra fluffy feathers. They lay huge eggs year round. Con- like to eat a lot. They come in bantam size. Don't get these confused with the common hatchery Buff Orpingtons. The black orps have a beetle-green, metallic shine. So pretty! The Jubilee Orpingtons look like a round speckled Sussex or Flower hen.
I also have a Coronation Sussex pullet. She's as big as my English Orpingtons - maybe 8-9 lbs. Don't know how much bigger she'll get. She's shy, quiet, & at the bottom of the pecking order.
My Crested Cream Legbars are not heavy eaters like the two breeds above. They're also not lap chickens, but will eat from our hands, come when called, & very pretty to look at. Their eggs are blue, but they took a break from laying mid Nov-early March. IMO my Easter Eggers have the same quality eggs but higher production. The EEs are fearless & very comical. Some are cuddlers; some are not. The CCLs & EEs are more active, will fly a little, and may sit in a tree. The Orps & CS always stick to the ground or close to it.
My Cream Crested Legbar, Skittles My Lavender Orpington, Cuddles
My Bantam Orpington, Cookie. (Caught my daughter playing Barbies with her.)
When Cookie is in the sunlight, she's stunning.
I'm not sure if Orps would do well in heat. They're good for our northern winters.
Someday I'd like to try a silkie or Cochin. They're pretty, but do their feathered legs get messy/muddy?
