I have coronation and light sussex, and I noticed the lights are the most curious/sweet of the bunch.

Hello I am new to this thread. I have 4 light Sussex (2 Hens, 2 Roos) I think they are about 6 months old. No one is laying and on one is crowing.

I recently obtained some light sussix's, split to coro and pure cornations. I am really enjoying these birds. They have such a wonderful personality. Would someone give me there opinion on weather or not these sussix's make a good backyard flock(eggs and meat) or is this sussix thing just a fad thing that will go away after a while. I'm not interested in selling chicks or eggs in a big way. Their's not much info out there that I can find.

I think they are a great dual purpose breed. I found my lights lay a little better than the coros, and the coros tended to be more broody. They are very fast growing and large so also make great meat birds.

There is a Breeder of show Speckled Sussex in Kentucky. I emailed him earlier this year about eggs and chicks but he didn't have any. He may have older birds for sale. He has won with his SS. His name is Walt Reichert [email protected].

Interesting that we've had 51 pages on the breed, and little talk of bantam versions. I love the temperament of the Sussex, but would like it in a smaller bird. Can someone post a photo or provide details of a bantam vs. standard Sussex. How tall is the sussex exactly?

I know that standard sussex lay medium eggs, but how large are bantam sussex eggs in comparison?

Also, if one were to get a bantam sussex roo to mate with some standard sussex hens, do you think he could get the job done given that the breed is so large? Was hoping to produce a more medium sized bird.
