Here's one of my three speckled hens taken a little while back. They all look nice from their molts, after having looked HORRIBLE before hand....lol

Except for their tails...I don't think any of them have grown a full tail back in yet.

What a gorgeous hen. I can't wait to own this breed! I do not plan to breed them but if they prove to be fabulous then I may have to. Everyone says they are very nice birds. This will be great to have a year of just letting them free range the farm to see what they are like. All the photos have been beautiful but I think I am going with the Speckled to start with.

They are fabulous! I tripped over one of my hens today - AGAIN! She is always at my feet. She is walking with me or right in front of me. . . . All my other breeds FOLLOW me, but not the speckled sussex. They are right beside or infront of you

Is that tail typical of a SS roo ? ? Those are some really long tail feathers . . .

What kind of personality does you SS roo have ? ? Some have said they had issues with the roos being nasty . . ..

I am sorry to question so much. I have had no exposure to the SS roos . . . .

I'm not sure if the tail is "typical" or not as I've never had any reason not to think so.
I welcome someone to chime in if they see something quite wrong though. I'm not a breeder, so doesn't effect me much either way!

The rooster was picked on when he was younger and was probably the most timid cockerel I had.
After I got rid of the two more dominant fellows, he grew up to be the biggest bird I have and "fell" into being king of the roost - or the closest to it.
He is the only one that will try to flog you if you start to back him up or disturb everything. But you can still tell he is timid in a lot of ways...and I don't think I've EVER seen him bother any of the hens.
I may have seen him mount one once, but I think he is quite gentle and friendly to them, so I like him around.

i have heard this before. . . . I am planning on hatching some EE eggs soon, so I guess I will find out what they roos can be like. My BCM roo has be spoiled so the expectation will be high for SS roos to behave themshelves .. . .
