It is easy for me to stick to this, because it is broken into 2 1/2 week (17 day) segments. The first 17 days are the strictest, but you lose the weight FAST! Drink lots of water, eat all the lean protein and vegetables you want, no fruit past 2 p.m., and 2 servings of probiotics per day (yogurt, etc.), and 1 Tbsp. of olive oil per day. The second phase, adds in certain other foods, including some starches, like rice and potato, and alternates days of phase 1 and phase 2. The third phase adds in more foods, but also concentrates on portion control. The 4th phase is basically a maintenance phase, so you don't go back to eating whatever, whenever. The author is a family doctor from California, and it is an easy book to read as well as follow. It is about jump-starting your metabolism and changing it frequently so your body never knows what to expect and doesn't plateau or go into starvation mode.
My hubby bought a pickup truck in May from a 64-year-old man who had been put on this by his doctor. He was diabetic, too. In 4 1/2 months he lost 65 pounds and was no longer a diabetic!

His wife lost 43 pounds in the same time. One of my friends lost 45 pounds. I wasn't able to stick with it for long, due to other factors, but in my first 17 days I lost 15 pounds and have kept it off!

I also had more energy than I have had in a long time-due to eating healthier (veggies, fish, chicken, yogurt, fruits, etc.). I love all that stuff, so it was easy to follow, and I wasn't feeling starved!

I also noticed that after 2 or 3 days I wasn't even interested in sweets or carbs!

The biggest challenge is getting past those 'weak' times when will power is gone. Nobody is hungry 24/7....but we all have different times that we are prone to overeat. We need to target those weak times and come up with a plan to protect ourselves from...well ourselves!
Maybe you just have to NOT buy those sweets. If they are not in the house it takes a lot more work to go out and get them.
If your kids eat the snacks you like, maybe they will have to eat them at school instead and eat healthier things at home so you are not as tempted.
Maybe you need to drive home a different route, to get past that window of time when McDonald's is screaming at you.
It really is down to those specific times. Let's keep helping each other through them!

One thing my trainer suggested that really worked for me last time was using non-food rewards. For instance, at the time I was really big into an online game so as a rule I didn't allow myself to play it unless I had worked out that day. I kept telling myself that I didn't want to just play a butt kicking character, I wanted to look like one too! I also use reading as an incentive. The activities are even more fun when I feel I've earned them.

That is good advice! m Even buying a better fitting piece of clothing can be a good incentive when you reach a weight goal!

For those who like to keep track of what you eat and burn try using www.myfitnesspal.com. It's totally free. You just fill out some info and it gives you how many calories to eat a day, keep track of what you eat and you can keep track of your exercise. It's a great website!

we should start a group on sparkpeople.com! Its a awesome site! It will help us with goals, we can do food tracker, goaltracker, fitness tracker. It will even generate fitness schedules and menus for us.
fitnesspal looks great too. I like the spark site better I think...

Ahhh first post of the new year and I'm sticking to it.I called the wife from work and reminded her to get on the tread mill.As for myself, well if I don't drink any beer and I just go ahead and hit the exercise bike and not eat I'll be down to 180 in no time.Ohh my goal is no splurging until next new years eve when I can have real butter and lobster again,
God Bless! and Good luck with the new goals.
